i'm looking into a new carrier for hiking and found the following review of one:
"I like to take my 7 1/2 month old son riding on my ATV with me, I have been doing so since he was 2 weeks old, he loves it! Unfortunately as he has gotten older strapping his car seat onto the rack became to unsafe, I needed something that could support him and hold him steady. This does just the trick! The Rumba Superlight is light enough so my balance is not thrown off yet holds him firm enough that he doesn't bounce at all! My sons safety is my number one concern, and with this product I do not have to worry. "
as though a carseat on the back of an ATV isn't unsafe, now she just straps him onto her? love the "my sons safety is my number one concern" comment. maybe it's just me but this struck me as dumbfounding.
Re: wow, taking a baby ATV riding on your back?
You take my ovaries, I take your yarns.
no words
You have to know how and where she's riding that ATV. My brother takes his 2yr old out on his atv all the time. He's been doing it for a long time now. His son loves it. I grew up riding motorcycles in the mountains and in the desert. My mother was riding (obviously easier trails) when she was 7m pregnant with me. Remember this was in the days of women having a cocktail and cigarette without worries. My mother neither smoked nor drank when she was pregnant. My father put me in a backpack carrier and took me on his bike as a baby. I sat in front of him when I was a toddler and little kid before I started riding on my own at 5yrs.
I on the other hand am not comfortable riding with my son on an atv. He rides on my husband's tractor all the time. He loves it. I took him for a ride on my mil's farm on the lawn mower once. I can only imagine anyone who takes their tiny one on an atv isn't driving any faster than a lawn mower.
Just my .02.
Hopefully MMML will come in and tell me I'm an awful parent and my child should be placed in a bubble.
ditto this.
We ride ATVs with our kids..but its just around private roads around the lake. AND..we don't wear helmets..but we are only going like 3mph tops too.
You need to know the whole story before you judge.
Is this supposed to convince us that it's ok to put a baby on your back to ride an ATV? ?
Agreed, we don't know the whole story.?
It reminds me of another post on a different board a while back about a woman who was being flamed for taking her child on a snowmobile. Turns out that she lives in Alaska several miles away from the nearest road (I think it was a cabin without electricity even!) The snowmobile in winter/ATV in summer was their only way of getting out to the road. ?
