I have used the instead cup before, it is alot like the diva cup, you can get them at CVS. It wasn't that bad at all. I didn't mind it one bit and I wasn't weirded out by it.
My friend had to use this when she was living/volunteering in a developing country without access to tampons and such. I have not, however, asked her how she liked it. I assume she switched back when she got home.

Yep...I have a friend in Kansas who uses something like this every month. She loves it...tried to get me to use one to. Um, no thanks. But like a PP, she found out about it while teaching ESL in Brazil and Peru...no easy access to tampons and the like!
It doesn't strike me as any more gross than everyones nasty pads and tampon applicators sitting in a landfill for the next bazillion years.
I use something similar - it's really not as messy and complicated as it sounds - promise.

ETA: Also not any more gross than cloth diapering - you're cleaning and resusing a product to contain bodily waste. And both products save a whole mess of nasty crap from sitting in a landfill for the the rest of time, save a decent amount of money over time, and keep some weirdo absorbency chemicals away from people's bodies.
Re: Anyone ever heard of this product?

Here it is, I don't think I would like the diva cup though.
