HOW do you drink enough water every day?

When I was pregnant I drank water constantly (it was pretty easy sitting there on my butt), but since having Ethan, I am constantly moving around, going places, etc., and I always forget to bring water with me or have it on hand. ? And I am always dehydrated. ?

I know I"m supposed to drink something like 1 liter for every 40lbs of body weight (that is SO much water for me), but I barely get those 8 glasses in every day. ?

If you're really good at always getting enough water, tell me how you do it!?

Re: HOW do you drink enough water every day?

  • I don't. Which is sad because I work from home and DS goes to daycare FT, so I'm really just sitting at a desk all day.

I'm going to go get some water right now, while I'm thinking about it.

  • I always have a full glass around the house with me.  I like to add slices of lime to mine, to make it taste "better."  I also journal my food (since i gained a few back...) and check them off on the list to make sure I get enough in a day.

I am not as good at it when we're out and about.  I try to fill my Nalgene before we go anywhere in the car.

It's a work in progress for me.

  • i am not good about drinking water but I am getting better... or trying to at least... I keep TONS of bottles of water in my frig... I am more likely to drink it if it is cold and ready to grab... I tend to not drink much during the day so every time I open the frig they are there for me to see...
  • I try to drink a lot when I am on the computer.  I have bad kidney stones and I am supposed to drink a ton of water with lemon.  It is so hard!

  • An IV? I seriously don't know, but I've always been bad about water.

  • Drink it through a straw.  You'll ingest twice as much as you would otherwise.
  • I have such a hard time drinking water.  I am so picky about it.  If water has even the littlest amount of chlorine taste, I cannot drink it.  Even water softner water tastes odd to me.  We had Culligan water at my work and it always tasted "dusty" to me.  So weird, I know=P  I have to drink Nestle bottled water, even better if I can get some ice and lemon.
  • I am now that I'm writing things down again. Before, I thought I was, but it is really obvious that I haven't been based on how much I'm peeing now that I'm really checking myself :-)
  • I'm really good about it at work because we have a filtered water and ice dispenser here and I just fill up my Nalgene bottle a couple times a day.  But I'm definitely not as good about it when I'm at home, and really bad if I'm out and about.  I find that if I have a bottle full and it's cold, I'll drink it.
  • Oh, and for some reason I feel like I do better if I have a straw.  Like I drink it faster and it is easier to just take a sip.  I don't know.
  • I'm not drinking pop, juice, etc... so my main choices are milk or water.  I keep it in a nalgene bottle or an insulated mug that keeps it cold and just sip on it throughout the day.  When I used to drink a lot of pop I had a much harder time getting my water in.
  • thanks, ladies! I partly expected to get flamed for asking such a simple question (like, "um, drink more water, dumbass), but apparently I'm not the only one who has trouble with this! ?

I'll try the straw thing. ?I"m trying to stop drinking bottled water, but it is so much more convenient to grab a bottle than it is to deal w/ the Britta filter and the re-usable aluminum bottles (says the laziest girl in the universe). ??

  • i don't.  i was great about this when i was pg with #1, but i seriously don't drink even close to 8 glasses day.  i bet 4 a day is a good day for me.  off to fill my glass...
  • I never leave without a bottled water in hand.  I drink it all day long and into the night.  I just love water.

  • I just keep a glass out all day and refill it every now and then. ?I keep bottled water just for the car. ?I have no idea how much I really drink. ?I think sometimes I'll get too busy to drink water during the day, but right before bed I'll suddenly get insanely thirsty and down 3 glasses of water in a matter of minutes. ?Of course, then I have to wake up to pee in the middle of the night.

Also, the water content of the food you eat counts toward the amount you need, and that's more than you might think. ?I'm a dork and watch Food Detectives on Food Network. ?There was an episode where they tested the water content of typical meals, and it was actually a lot of water.?

?Why don't you just refill the bottles with tap water? What's this obsession with Britta? OK not everywhere has wonderful tap water but I found several places in the US had wonderful tap water. and its flourodated in most places which is much better for you.

I buy bottled water for travel and reuse the bottles for tap water. I have a 500ml on my desk all the time and make my way through it (pouring into a glass not swigging it so I can keep reusing it). I keep 2L bottles for the dinner table. The 3 of us go through 2L and more at dinner.

  • Actually I love water. I do get about 8 glasses in most days. I drink at least 3 cups with breakfast alone! Whenever I'm thirsty, I drink water. I only drink pop at lunch and dinner. I drink water with my evening snack and always have a cup before bed. I fill my cup up with ice and it's sooooo yummy!  Yes, I go to the bathroom A LOT! LOL

  • I have an insulated 24 oz cup with a straw that I got at Target. I always have it with me and drink 5 of them a day. I gave up all pop last year and have been drinking lots of water since last April. I will add lemon to it or I love Crystal Light peach mango green tea. I have lost 32 lbs already and I feel much better when I drink water. Like pp, I do go to the bathroom a lot!!!
