does anyone actually nap during the day

I remember at the beginning, people used to tell me to nap when the babies nap (people with 1 baby!).  I dont think I've ever napped during the day, as much as I'd like to. The girls tend to fall asleep at different times. And the rare occasion that they both sleep, its my chance to make formula, clean bottles, etc. I've attempted once or twice to sleep but my mind gets too preoccupied. Just wondering if anyone else catches daytime sleep.

Re: does anyone actually nap during the day

  • The only time I did was back when my mom was in town in the very beginning... if I was sleep deprived I'd wake up, feed the babies, and ask her to take a shift while I passed out.

I have the same problem as you... if they're sleeping I have to wash bottles, wash dishes, pay bills... and even if all that is done there's no way I catch any decent sleep lying next to the monitor... oh well.

  • ::sheepishly raises hand::  I didn't at first but once they got into more of a routine and I stopped pumping so much, I started napping when they take their first nap (they take 3 so I still have 2 other opportunities to accomplish something).  It's usually about an hour and it makes me a much more patient person by the end of the day.  I highly recommend!
  • I wish I could nap...I'm kinda incapable of naps...sucks...
  • I'm with you: Daytime naps (when they take them at the same time) are when I pump, clean bottles, take a shower, do laundry, etc.

  • I used to get so mad when someone would tell me I should be napping when they napped...whatever. I never had the time to nap....like you said, they slept at different times in the beginning. By the time both were changed, fed, lulled to sleep, I had to pump.  I only had about an hour or 45 minutes before I had to do it all over again. I could never stop my brain long and slow down my body to get enough rest...so I just stayed awake.

The only time I could take a daytime nap was if someone was home with me. That way I could lie down and comfortably go to sleep knowing someone would go to the babies if they cried.

  • I recall only one time when they were younger & I was even more dead-tired than usual. ?There's just too much to do! ?Also, I tend to be really grumpy when awakened suddenly after only 30 or so minutes of sleep, so it would almost be counter-productive!
  • I am in the same boat. I have taken 2 naps since the boys were born and thats because my Mom was here to help me out.  I always feel there is something more important to do then sleep during the day.
