How often do you get Groceries?

Silly question but i was just talking to my friend about my unhealthy diet while being pregnant (feeling awful about it)...

and for one, i blame it on the winter that the produce is awful at my grocery store! the produce sucks right now and i am finding it difficult to get stuff that is in good condition! so i have been relying on apples and grapes for my fruits and carrots, celery and brocc serving trays for my veggies!  and a lot of V8!

and secondly, i only go grocery shopping every 2 weeks and i feel that i start out my week doing well with fresh produce but since i only go to the grocery store every 2 weeks, i find myself eating crap by the end of the 1st week (like pre-made, processes foods, take out etc)

anyone else feeling this way?  or if you are not, then what are you doing to help with your fruits and veggies intake (i don't have m/s and haven't yet- so that's not the issue and primarily why i am feeling guilty)

Re: How often do you get Groceries?

  • We usually go weekly for produce and soda/juice/snacks I'm craving, then try to go once a month to BJ's (or a similar place) to stock up on meat.

  • weekly. i'd be scared of produce older than that, but aminly cause i'm sooo picky.
  • Ditto, My store has horrible produce right now, and I hate the thought of going to a fruit market, I like to get everything at one store. I normally go every two weeks, but lately I have to up that. My DS has developed a bit of an appetite and I have found myself needing to shop almost weekly.

  • I generally go once a week or once every week and a half.

DH gets cold cuts for lunches, and we get lots of fruits and veggies so if any of those things get older than that its just nasty..

  • we go weekly. Maybe you could try going to a different grocery store.  I know around here some are much better than others when it comes to fresh produce.
  • I typically goe once a week although DH has been going lately, gives me an opportunity to rest and do homework while he is gone and DS is napping.  I still make the list but I keep forgetting to put things like fresh veggies on their that I would normally pick up but he doesn't think to grab those things.  I always remember fruit and he is bad for checking the apples for bruises (yucky).

yea i am thinking that's the case- i do shop at multiple places typically but lately i have been using the same store!  or i will try like a produce junction or something (a produce store)---- the fruits n veggies wont stay no matter how good they are after a few days - so there may be nothing else for me to do but to shop weekly- (trying to avoid that-- expenses)

  • We go once a week.  I shop at Kroger and they've had some great strawberries and blueberries.

  • We do a big shop once a month (pantry items, meats), then I pick up fruits and veggies weekly (for the most part...)

I am a HUGE couponer though too. So, I stockpile a lot of stuff when it's on sale for super cheap/free.

  • We go to the farmers market every Sunday and get a lot of produce and veggies from there and then we go to the grocery store for everything else Sunday evenings. Granted I live in CA so produce and veggies are still really good here.

YOu might want to use frozen fruit and make smoothies or something like that then you can use a lot of healthy berries and through in some ground flax seed and you will be set!

  • I go like every other day. My tastes and what I can stand to eat change almost daily, so I just stop at the store around the corner from my house. I'm lucky we have great local produce right now, so its easy to stop and pick something up.
