Hey Ladies- I am just starting my registry at Babies R Us and was wondering what 'must have' items you recommend. I know they have a must have list to go by on their website- but I'm not sure if everything on there is necessary. Any help would be great!!! Thanks ![]()

Re: "Must haves" for registry
Boppy, ultimate crib sheet, swaddle me blankets, halo sleep sacks, swing, FP rainforest soother, bouncy chair, FP rainforest jumparoo, playmat, video monitor, Baby Einstein CD (at least one of these for the car). As for carseats, I say go for an infant seat with a higher weight limit (30 lbs). I went with a smaller one and regretted it. Go ahead and register for a convertable carseat... you never know someone might buy it for you and if not, at least you'll get a discount on it when you close out your registry. Not available at BRU but these are 2 of my favorite baby items and I reccomend them to everyone... personalized bottle bands at www.inchbug.com. And labels for everything at www.mabelslabels.com.
Here's the post I was talking about:

Do you have the Baby Bargains book? Its a great guide to top rated products with the price in mind. (Reviews, safety, etc)

That is the double BOB. My SIL, who has twins says it is AMAZING
My favorite baby products are:
boppy and cover
Dr. Brown's bottles and nipples
Medela steam steralizing bags
Bottle brush (any kind will do)
Pampers and Pampers Sensitive Wipes
Car mirror (I actually hated the one we got and loved the one from Walmart that's by Baby Trends I think)
Bottle warmer
Wipes warmer
Pack n play
I wish I'd registered for an Ergo carrier but I didn't
Munchkin duck tub (ages 6 months and up)
Ultimate crib sheet
Boppy changing pad cover
Homedics Baby Spa Lullaby Machine (I doubt they have them at BRU but this has white noise and projection and is a lifesaver!!!)
Britax carseat (I wish we'd spent less on our infant carrier and gone ahead and gotten a Britax because he outgrew his infant carrier by 6 months)
Aveeno baby bath products
Little noses saline drops
Mylicon gas drops
Infant tylenol and motrin
Battery powered nasal aspirator (I didn't get one but everyone I know loves theirs)
Oh...and ditto the pp on:
Halo sleep sacks (different sizes)
Swaddleme blankets
FP Rainforest Jumperoo (greatest toy ever)
Also:
I bought a big highchair but I would have gotten one of the spacesaver ones that attaches to the kitchen chair if I could do it over
Shopping cart cover
Umbrella stroller
Footed sleepers
Carter's knit (or jersey - can't remember the exact term) crib sheets
Books: You Are My I Love You, Good Night Moon, Brown Bear, Brown Bear
Baby Einstein Baby Signs DVD
Bath toys
I disagree about getting a infant seat that has a higher limit. DS was too heavy for me to lug around in it at about 21 lbs. I would never want to carry around a super heavy baby in one of those things. I'd buy a cheaper infant seat that you know will be outgrown soon and a nicer convertible carseat.
Definitely the SwaddleMe blankets...DD could never wiggle out of them.
Steam Sterilizer..I use it daily. https://www.target.com/The-First-Years-All-Purpose-Sterilizer/dp/B00067IZ1S/sr=1-2/qid=1233253456/ref=sr_1_2/179-5249423-8928721?ie=UTF8&index=target&rh=k%3Asterilizer%20steam&page=1
Shopping cart cover
Extra changing pad covers. It never fails, I go to change DD and she wets the one thats on there.
Tummy time playmat
Bouncy seat and swing
Closet dividers. I had so many clothes it was hard to keep them organized and DD ended up outgrowing many of them before I even know we had them.
Waterproof crib pad
Pack n play w/ sheets
Things I wish I would have known:
I was hoping to breastfeed and registered for a ton of items relating to that. Good thing I borrowed a breast pump from a family member instead of buying one, because, due to complications at birth and afterwards, I was unable to breast feed. I did not use the Boppy very much, and ended up having to take all the other items back. I would rent a breast pump from the hospital, or borrow one, instead of buying one, atleast until you know if you will be able to use it or not.
I read some of these posts and my list of "must-haves" are different, because all babies are different. For example, I have halo sleep sacks that others listed as a "must have" and don't use them. We swaddle D at night and my little Houdini can worm out of every swaddle we have tried except the miracle blanket. So now I have 3 miracle blankets!
Absolute must haves to keep in the house, besides the obvious diapers, wipes, food, etc. - is to stock the medicine cabinet. Stuff you don't want to have to run out to buy when you need it. Include: infant tylenol, saline drops, pedialyte, mylicon or other gas drops, teething gel, butt cream/paste, petroleum jelly, and lotion (dye and fragrance free). I would also recommend a soft light dim nightlight for changes and feedings in the night when you need enough light to see what you are doing but don't want the baby to be alerted with light.
Our baby naps in the swing, so that's a must have for us, but I have heard not all babies like them.
DMoney will be a kickass big sister
With the swings and bouncers, see if you can borrow them from somebody first to see what your baby likes. DD has never really been crazy about the swing, although she'll tolerate it for 10-15 minutes at a time if I really need to get something done in the kitchen. Somebody let us borrow a Bumbo, and I'm glad we didn't drop $40 on one ourselves -- DD hated it.
I used the SwaddleMe swaddlers and they worked pretty well, as did the Halo SleepSacks with wings, for the first 3 months. After she stopped needing to be swaddled to sleep, we switched her to regular SleepSacks and she likes them. She is a very active sleeper, so I wouldn't be comfortable leaving her with a regular blanket.
Besides all the baby medications people already mentioned, I'd add cotton balls, cotton swabs, and hand sanitizer to keep by the changing table and in your diaper bag.
A lingerie bag to wash baby socks is great. Otherwise, they get lost in the wash.
We have an Arm's Reach Mini Co-sleeper bassinet and loved it.
A stack of cloth diapers (either prefolds or flatfolds) is great to have for burp cloths and general cleanup.
I agree with not stocking up on all the breastfeeding paraphernalia until you know you can use it; I was planning to breastfeed and was unable to do it due to surgery I had ten years ago. I still liked the Boppy for feedings when she was little. DH and I both still use it as an elbow support when we're on the couch holding her (sleeping or eating), and you can use it to prop your baby up in a sitting position when s/he's 6 months or so old.
Drawer and closet organizers and hangers for all their stuff. Plastic boxes to store outgrown clothes.
A good baby carrier -- I like my mei tais and my ring sling. I have a Hotsling and don't much care for it. The Baby Bjorn and other carriers that put the baby's weight on his/her crotch aren't good for their spines. I may get an Ergo or Beco for this next one.
