Greedy Registry?

So there has been a little drama over my baby shower (which I won't get into). ?However, the negativity surrounding the event makes me worried that the women invited (in-laws) will think I'm being greedy by having so much on my registry. ?I have ~95 items on my BRU and 15 or so on my Target registry.

As you ladies know, you get 10% off anything left after the event date, so I'm using it as a shopping list! ?I've added things like sunscreen, not something I expect to receive as a gift, but would like 10% off when I buy it. ?I also have a ton of toys because I figured if people were going to buy a toy, then they would at least know what I like...

Should I remove some of the stuff so I don't look greedy? ?I am walking on eggshells here...

Re: Greedy Registry?

  • I'm not worried about the amount of stuff listed on my registry...if someone takes the time to count up the items, then I think they have greater issues! I agree that you should put items on there that you want to get your 10% completion discount on. I wouldn't worry about it.

  • Can you remove some of the stuff now and add it back on after the shower before you go use your completion coupon?
    DD1 is 3, DD2 is 1.
  • I wouldn't.  Like you said, that 10% off will come in handy after the baby comes.  Just because it's on the list doesn't mean someone HAS to buy it.  You're not forcing them to spend any more than they would have.  It just gives them a lot to chose from.

My registries are at least the size of yours (more at Target than BRU).  I even registered for my $175 glider!  Sometimes a bunch of people like to go together and get one big gift.  If not, I'll get 10% off later!

  • Leave them...it gives people options.  They will buy you what they want most likely and if they think you are being greedy so be it.  You know your reasons.

I probably have more than you on my list.  If my baby registry causes a a response like my wedding registry I will be deemed "champagne taste" again.  And I am ok with that!  My IL's wanted to buy us board games for a bridal shower to go with the theme...."entertaining".  Don't get me started.

  • No way, I think the more you have the better it is for people to find something in their budget !  I recently went to a baby shower and there was 2 things left! Both over 100$ so I bought her a huge box of newborn diapers and a bigger box of wipes..

Better to have more than not enough!

  • Can you send it through the grape vine that you don't expect all that stuff, but you get 10%, which is why its so big?  Otherwise- screw 'em.  The thing I have heard about a registry over and over again is it can't be greedy- it just gives people more options. If you only had a bunch of really expensive stuff then I would say greedy.  But not now...
  • No way -- don't remove a thing.  Who cares how many items you have on your registry?  It's your baby and people will have a lot to chose from when they are ready to buy you a gift.  I love when there is a ton of stuff on the registry list -- for me, I always wait to the last minute and I'm stuck with getting the last minute crap that no-one else wanted to buy.  To me -- the more you have on your registry, the better!
  • I think it is fine. You aren't telling people they have to buy you all of this, you are just giving them options. I like when people have a lot of different things to choose from.
  • I have more items on my registry then you have on yours...I'm having a work shower & a personal shower ~ so I figured the more stuff the better...who cares how much you have on your registry - I don't think it's greedy at all....people always have something to say...don't take anything off!

  • Nope..keep them on..like pp said those that even pay attention to the # have their own issues.  I know plenty of people with more than that on there.  Don't let their negativity get to you.
  • I have 105 items on my BRU registry and another 48 on my Amazon. And I'm probably not done adding!!

I should clarify that by saying most of those items I have on there (like, 90%) are $20 or less gifts. Bottles, pacifiers, changing pads, etc. Little stuff.

I worried, too, about looking greedy ... but really, I think people appreciate having lots of things to choose from when they're shopping for your shower, right? I mean, if you only had 50 items on there and I went to get you something and there were only 10 things left to choose from, and I didn't like any of them/didn't want to get those things, you know what I'd get you? A gift card. Or something totally off registry that you might hate.

Bottom line: People like options. And as long as you don't have 50% of your items being over $100 in price, I think you're fine.

    JMHO.

  • I don't even know how many items are on my registries (BRU and Restoration Hardware).  If I don't know, I don't expect any of the shower guest will check.  And if they do, they are being dramatic.  You are TOTALLY fine.  If they don't want to buy something off the registry or can't afford it, then they will do something else.  Its nice you are concerned, but you are totally ok.

  • Don't worry about it. No one is going to think twice about what you registered for (unless of course every item on your registry is super expensive). Most people know about completion programs and coupons.

  • If these are things you need, then they should be on your registry. There's really no max number!
  • I wouldn't remove anything.  It's YOUR registry.  Plus, when my bff had her baby shower, it was mostly supplies and people gave her supply-themed baskets.  Someone might want to give you sunscreen.  Plus, 10% off is 10% off later.  If someone has a problem, just tell them about the completion code... GL!
  • I'm worried I won't have enough on mine ....

now after reading all the posts I will register for what I want! And not think twice .....

Keep it all on there .... better to get what you want .... even if its lil ..... than to get what you dont want!

  • No and don't worry what they think. It gives them options and it saves you money. They can get over it.
  • I wouldn't take anything off...the more on there the more likely people will find something in their budget and not feel like your asking  for only big items like some registries I have seen.
  • Don't worry about it & keep your registry like it is. I had maybe 20 items (I started my BRU reg. online before going into store) & my friend told me about the 10% off & then I found out when I went to the store, now I've got like 150+ things probably. It's mostly little stuff (like the sunscreen, socks, etc.) but I want 10% off on everything. Maybe I'm a cheap-o, but kids cost a lot, I want to save a little if I can, so if that's being greedy then so be it. But I've NEVER heard someone who wants to save money on something for themselves be called greedy, lol! Just a thought!
  • I say leave it! You don't have to answer to anyone about what you put on your registry and why.
