NBR: 10 yr HS reunion...help me decide...

Tomorrow night is my 10-yr HS reunion. Basically, they reserved the top floor of a bar down the street from our alma mater for $10/person to have an open bar.

Here's the deal: I live 2 hours away. It starts at 8pm. I liked the people I went to HS with, but didn't really keep in touch with anyone. (My closest friends are college friends.) So do I drive 4 hours round trip to hang out at the reunion for a couple hours, leaving DH with a bottle of EBM to put dd to bed, and then get home late--around 1am? Or should I just bag it? If you went to your 10 year, was it worth it? (On the other side of things, if you didn't go, did you regret missing it?)

  • 2 hours each way + open bar = you need to get a hotel room if you do go.

  • Oops! I meant "cash bar." Yeah, if it were a $10 open bar, I'd be there (with a hotel room reserved) in a heartbeat. ;-)
  • I missed my 10 year and sort of regret it. It was held 30 minutes from where I lived at the time and I was too lazy to go. :-) I'll probadly go to our 15 year (they have those, right?). I just joined facebook and have connected with so many high school "friends" it will be nice to see them in person then.

So if I were you, I'd skip it. :-) Seems like a lot of work to me.

  • It was fun seeing all the people from HS but I didn't reunite with a single one of them.  If you want to see where everyone is in life, go, but if you really don't care that much I wouldn't.  4 hours of driving at night....not for m.e
  • I just recently had mine and I loved seeing everyone.  Although I have kept in tough with most of them through myspace, but I've been looking forward to going since I graduated.  Oh, and DH went with me to mine and we stayed in a hotel.  Granted, mine was downtown...not 2 hours away.  Reunions are for some people, and not for others.

  • It really depends on how you feel about the people you went to hs with and whether you still see everyone you feel like seeing in your normal life. FWIW, I'm going to my 15-yr hs reunion in a couple of months in Philly and I live in NY, probably closer to a 3 hour drive. I'm spending the night and coming back home first thing in the morning. Since I don't live down there, I never have the chance to randomly run into these people in my normal life, so I'm excited about the chance to see everyone. but that's just me. I lived a 3-hour plane ride away for our 10 year, so I missed it.

  • Mine was in Oct and I was one of the one's who helped plan it.  I'm glad I went.  I didn't keep in touch with many, but it was great seeing everyone!

And ours was $50 a person = $100 a couple.  And that didn't include drinks.  so, price wise, yours is a great deal!

I'd go, and maybe get a hotel room.  You might have a great time and not want to drive home (even if your not drinking)

    hth!
