My pump must not be "latched" right

because one of my nips is cracked and bleeding.  I was not aware that could happen from pumping (I EP).  Yea it pretty much hurts until my nipples go numb about 5 minutes into pumping.  Yuck!  I'm using lanisoh cream - is there anything else I can try?

Re: My pump must not be "latched" right

  • Use some neosporin to help heal them. Just make sure you rinse them off before pumping. Also, some soothies cooled off in the refridgerator tucked in your bra after pumping help with the pain.

  • two words. olive oil.

lube up the nips before pumping. the olive oil works so much beter than the laninsoh cream. feel better

  • i prefer Medela's nipple therapy lanolin over other brands. It is easier to apply.

    Good luck!

  • I found that a new pair of breast shields/horns with larger holes helped significantly.  If the nipple is being rubbed against the sides, it can get irritated.
  • I completely agree with PP, olive oil!  That's what they told me during BFing class.
