Help! I can't sleep at night, any advice?

I am so exhausted, I feel like I am going through each day in a fog. DS has been sporadically sleeping through the night here and there. Well, regardless if he sleeps through the night or not, my body keeps waking up at 4AM sharp every day and will not go back to bed. I have tried Tylenol PM, didn't work. Took an Ambien last night (which I am nervous about since I am nursing but kellymom says it is acceptable), I woke up even earlier at 1:30, dozed for a bit, then was up at 4. This has been going on now for about a week and a half and it is really, really affecting my quality of life and I don't know what to do. The time I did try and take a nap during the day to make up for it made it even worse because then I couldn't fall asleep that night. Please help!

  • I've had this since my DD was born. It was really bad around 3-4 months, but has gotten a little better. I still wake up every night around 3 a.m. I have taken Tylenol PM, which has worked pretty well. I have also taken Advil PM, which I don't like. I went to the Dr. and they presribed a anti-anxiety, sleeping pill, which she said worked, but I didn't want to commit to it for 9 months. Maybe ask your Dr. about it. It could be anxiety related. Mine was. The more I let myself relax about things, the easier it has been to sleep. Good luck!  You are not alone!

  • I don't sleep good anymore either. When I was pregnant with DS, I slept on the couch alot especially towards the end because I just wasn't comfortable in our bed plus it was the summer and I was so hot. I kind of got used to sleeping on the couch and that is where I sleep the best now. We just bought a new Queen mattress because DS sleeps with us (not something I intended to do) so it's very hard sleeping with him sometimes plus he still wakes up during the night. I get my best sleep on the couch believe it or not but it still isn't enough. Like last night, I went on the couch around 4 but was up for a good 2 hours before that so I am exhausted. It's pretty much like that almost every night for me. I try to just think that it will not be like this forever.
