If you have a brick fireplace

If you have a brick fireplace with a hearth, how do you childproof the brick heart so that the hard brick edges are not a safety hazard for you little one?  I need help with ideas on this.  Thanks.

I have the safety gate that surrounds the brick and keeps them out of the area.  It is fire safe specifically made for fireplaces/woodstoves.

BRU has some soft padded things for all the edges of the brick. It sticks on, but is easy to take off when you're finished with it.
