NBR - Old Navy Sizes for 9 year old (6X-7)

My group at work "adopted" two families for Christmas.  I am buying a 9 year old some winter clothing.  It says that she's size 6X-7.  I'm seeing some nice deals on OldNavy.com, but I don't understand how to relate their sizes to this 6X-7 thing.  Does anyone know what size is probably appropriate?  Their size chart says M for 8-9 years old and L for 9-11 year olds.  Does anyone have any experience with someone who wears 6X-7 clothiing and what fit them from ON?

I would guess a size S which is probably (7-8 years) would equate to a 6X-7 elsewhere. You could always call customer service and ask. 6X-7 is a small 9 year old!
