Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Solids - How much, when, what, etc.?

My daughter will be 6 months next week so I want to try to figure out this whole solids thing!  She has had cereal for the last month but only one tablespoon, once a day.  And sometimes none at all.  She drinks breastmilk only.

How many "meals" per day should she get at what age?  I was thinking one a day for the next few weeks, then start 2 meals a day.  Maybe around 8 months 3 meals a day?  I really have no clue though.

We are going to the doctor in a week or so but I wanted to hear what others are doing.

 TIA!

  • Since you are just starting out, I would start with one meal a day--probably breakfast.
I would introduce her to oatmeal with fruit (we use Gerber Banana Oatmeal) or fruit (banana or applesauce), and give her a couple ounces of breastmilk to wash it down.

As she gets used to that, work her up to another meal at lunch like one veggie and one fruit and milk to go with it. etc. etc.

    HTH!
