Babies: 9 - 12 Months

WWYD-Thanksgiving and sick babies

Ok.  This year we are doing Thanksgiving at my sisters house which is about 2 hours away.  She has 3 kids (5, 3 and 9 months).  Last week her 5 year old got sick (diaherria and vomitting)...then the 3 year old...and then the 9 month old had diaherria.  My sister also got sick, just not vomiting.  We thought the bug was gone.  Well our grandmother and aunts visited her on Sunday and Monday.  Last night my grandmother got sick, and my aunt this morning.

We had plans to drive their today for Thanksgiving.  I'm really against it now but I don't want my family to be mad to miss Thanksgiving...NOR do I want to be alone for Thanksgiving with my family.  However...I don't want my son getting sick since everyone has gotten sick but 1 person in that house (my BIL).

So...what would you do?

Re: WWYD-Thanksgiving and sick babies

  • I would probably skip it. Sad This past Easter BIL and his GF had stomach flu, they said they were getting over it and went to MIL's anyway. I read up about stomach flu and babies (granted, DS was only 2.5 months old at the time) and DH and I decided to skip Easter at MIL's. I'm so glad we did because everyone that was there came down with the stomach flu!! I read that it can be highly contagious. So even though BIL said they were almot over it, he passed it on to everyone there somehow!!

  • I would skip it.  IMO, your child's health is more important than family members hurt feelings.

  • I'd be sad about it, but I'd skip it. I wouldn't want DC getting sick.
  • I'd skip it.  Sick babies are no fun, especially if you get sick too!
  • That's tough, but I would probably stay at home.

  • I would skip it as well.  Flu bugs usually last for 1 week, so your grandmother and aunt are, most likely, still contagious.  You could always postpone the Thanksgiving festivities till everyone is better again.  I highly doubt your grandmother and aunt will feel like eating anything anyways.

  • I'd skip.  A cold is one thing, but vomiting and diarrhea?  Nope.  Heck if my kids had that I wouldn't even host it anymore.

  • Unless you'd want to hold your kid and keep yourself and baby away from everyone, I wouldn't go.  I really should be anyone who's sick shouldn't go, but it doesn't always work that way.
