Poll: How often do you change sippy cups?

I clean my son's straw sippy cups by taking them completely apart every single time and I use the small Dr. Brown's brush to clean all his straws each time also. I'm wondering how often I should switch his "old" sippy cups with new ones though.

?

How often do you change out your DC's sippy cups??

Re: Poll: How often do you change sippy cups?

  • We use the Playtex ones, and I remove the valve every time I wash them, but I still replace them probably once a month or so. They just seem to get gross sometimes.

  • We only used sippy cups from about 7 months until 15 months and during that time I threw them out and bought new ones every 2-3 months.

  • we use the princess take and toss cups and they get washed after each use... I am OCD like that.. I never use the same cup or towel twice.
  • I have never changed them just because I just make sure to take them apart completely after every used and wash them.

  • I have not yet.  They get washed in the dishwasher, and we take the plastic valve out and wash in the silverware basket every time.  We only have a couple straw cups.  DH destroyed one by trying to take out the entire straw part that's in the top of the cup.  Needless to say, it didn't go back in.  I bought a couple sipster type cups but took the valves completely out.  I could barely get water out with those valves in.

  • we have used the same ones since he was about 14 months, and he is 18 months now.  no need to change them, IMO, if you clean them thoroughly and sanitize them each time.  i just throw in the dishwasher, and hand wash the straws.
  • I rinse all of the pieces and soak them overnight then wash in the dishwasher with all of the pieces separated.  We've never replaced them.

  • DS has a penchant for throwing them onto hard surfaces, and has broken quite a few.

Otherwise, I tend to get him new ones every 3 months or so. They get run through the dishwasher after every use.

We use the Nuby flip top straw sippies.

  • wow- in this day and age of people being green- i'm shocked so many of you replace them so often!!

We have never replaced them... we have a ton of them though... but we take them apart and wash well - the cup goes in the dishwasher and the cap and valve/straws we do by hand.

unless they break I see no reason to get rid of them. Seems like a waste to me - and i'm not a super green person either... i just can't imagine getting rid of something that is cleaned well for no real reason.

  • Only when they get way to gross.  My 2 1/2 year old chews on everything so they get pretty gross after a lot of her use.  I did replace all of them a few months ago as I wanted to get the BPA free ones but I wash them after each use in the dishwasher so no need to replace them that often.

  • ditto Goldie Locks?

I have replaced parts to them, but I haven't thrown any away unless they are broke & no longer work.
