My brother just IMed me BEGGING me to come get my niece because they haven't slept for two days and she's been crying nonstop. I live an hour away from them and I have physical therapy at 5:00 and took off today to get some work done on two HUGE projects that are due tomorrow so it would be pretty difficult for me to go get her.
Any mom's have any suggestions on calming babies down? Neither of them work and so they are both home. I suggested switching off one stay up with her while the other hangs out with the baby and wearing earplugs while the one is sleeping and they said that they won't wear earplugs and they can't sleep with the baby crying. They've tried baby tylenol and she just spits it out, they've tried walking her around the block and she wakes up and cries as soon as they get home. She won't sleep in the swing or her bouncer. They said she doesn't have a fever, she just won't eat or sleep.
Any suggestions on how to help the baby and help them get some sleep? I don't mind watching her usually but today is a really bad day so I can't get down there.
Re: XP: help?
How old is she? Neworn doing newborn crying or older baby dealing perhaps with teething?
The one thing that worked for us when nothing else would with our WAY cranky baby was the Bjorn. Paul would wear him and walk circles around our house and he'd calm very quickly and sometimes fall to sleep.
I agree with earplugs. Sometimes that's the only way one of us could sleep while the other one dealt with a cranky baby.
She is a month old.
They don't have a bjorn and don't have the money for one (long story short they are both on welfare). They refused the earplug idea.
Honestly, I don't know why I am even bothering asking for advice because they won't take it at all. there have been a lot of good suggestions on the Central PA board and on this baby board with the bjorn idea and they turned all of them down, including sleeping in shifts. The only thing that will make them happy is me coming to get the baby and right now it can't happen because I have PT at 5 and I took off work to get my projects done that are due tomorrow.

well if she is uncontrollably crying and not eating then something is probably wrong, so it is best to take her to be seen.
They can't turn you away at the ER.
And yes they do need to learn to take care of her.

They can probably find a Bjorn or other carrier (ours was a Jeep brand and not very expensive) on craigs list.
But you're right - you've given them suggestions and they have not listened. So you've done what you can and now it's time to take a step back.
