Little Smokies

Or cocktail smokies or whatever you call them... how do you do the sauce? I'm seeing a lot of things that say grape jelly and chili sauce, but I can't seem to fathom how that will make the sauce that I am wanting. But it's not the same as BBQ sauce either. I have no idea how to make the sauce that goes in the crock pot with them.

  • Oh and I have no idea on the sauce.  I thought it was BBQ sauce.

  • It seems wierd, I know.  But that yummy sauce you're thinking of really is made with grape jelly.

  • I would do a yummy BBQ sauce with them.  The grape jelly thing is what I use for meatballs.  It's more of a sweet and sour. It is sooo stinking good though.  If you ever make it, I throw in a few tablespoons of apricot jelly also and pineapple would be good in it.  Nom nom nom.

  • So the jelly thing isn't as weird as it sounds? Maybe I'll try it then.

There was something on the package, but it wasn't anywhere close to what I'm looking for. It had like veggies in it - weird.

  • I do the grape jelly and chili sauce for meatballs. ?MH usually does regular BBQ sauce for smokies.

  • For the little smokies I use a cheap BBQ sauce and a few spoonfuls of Grape Jelly. DH thinks the jelly thing is weird and he always ask for me not to add it--but I end up sneaking it in and he doesn't even notice.
  • Damn you. Those sound so good!

Anyway, normally we do bbq sauce with lots of brown sugar added.
