Re: Did anyone have?

  • You mean like a public health nurse?  If so, YES and if you have the opportunity to have one, GRAB IT!  We had monthly visits from the nurse for the first year and it was amazingly awesome.  She'd do height and weight checks and talk about developmental things - it was particularly nice during the months when we didn't have well-visits with the ped.  Basically it was like having a friend who knows everything about babies/preemies come over for an hour or so to visit, answer questions, and tell you how awesome your kid is :-)

She was also available via phone and email between visits so if we had a question about something that wasn't ped.-worthy we'd ask her - such a life saver and we all totally cried when the year was over!

  • we had a home care nurse come twice a week. She didn't check the place out...just checked out Marino. She weighed him, took his vital sings and very patiently answered all of my questions. I loved her! They definately are not there to judge you, so don't worry about that.

  • When I first was told that we were going to have a visiting nurse come to our house I did not want one. Brandon was being monitored constantly between weekly trips to the pediatrician and occassional trips to the cardiologist, pulminologist, and opthamologist. I decided to try her one time to see what I thought and I wound up really liking her a lot.

She weighed Brandon, checked his vitals, measured his head, and was there to answer any questions that I had. She did not inspect the house. I was actually really sad when my insurance company told her that they would no longer pay for her to come.

  • Yes, we do!! Enroll in the program - I promise you won't regret it!!

The nurse won't be inspecting your house - she'll just weigh/measure your baby and play with him & monitor his development to make sure he isn't falling behind. The pp said it perfectly - it really is like having a friend come over that knows an amazing amount about preemies, and can completely 100% relate to you and your concerns about your baby.

For us, the nurse came out monthly for the first few months, then every 3 months. My guys are doing so well that now they'll only come out if I request a vist. I miss those montly checks! It was soooo nice to have an expert's undivided attention, who would patiently answer all of my questions and take every single one of them seriously.

  • Yes and you should take advantage of it as long as your insurance covers the cost.  Call your insurance to make sure you know how many visits they cover and don't let the nurse come more than that if you don't wish to pay for more out of pocket.

You won't be going anywhere and it's really helpful to have her come weigh the baby and make sure that you have all the answers you need answered.  Take advantage if you can while it's free.

  • yes and I loved mine, too.

She'd check out Robbie and answer my questions.. she even helped me work on breastfeeding.

One night she came back after work and brought me dinner and gave me a little break when my husband was out of town.

  • I didn't get much from mine. She did weigh and measure Ruby, but she was not able to answer questions specific to preemies, she only had general baby info.
  • Yes almost a year later she comes out every week to check his weight. She is so nice helps us with any questions and when I can't get a hold of my dr or having problems wiith Aprea her or her company  I call and they help me out it matter of hrs. My kids love her so much they get excited when she comes. I'm truly going to miss her when she leaves.

I say take it up the offer you'll be overwhelmed and it will be great to have someone there to answer the questions that you forgot to ask.

  • We did, she came once a week.? She did a weight check, meds check, lungs, heart, length, just stats like that.? ?
  • I dont really like people coming into our house. Just curious. TIA

so does this mean you are not having nesty get together at your place any time soon? lol
