Taking temp underarm-do you have to go up degrees?

DD won't do rectal anymore.  I took her temp under her arm because she had rosy cheeks, felt warm and woke up with a slight cold this morning.  It was 98.8.  Do I have to go up any degrees?

  • huh? DD was in the NICU for 4 weeks and had her temp taken underarm every 3 hours and they added anything to the reading....I am confused by this.

  • I also was told to add 1 degree
  • Our NICU thermometers had different settins for under the arm, mouth, rectal, etc.  I'm assuming the fancy digital-ness of it all did the math.

This thermo doesnt look any better that a $10 one from target. Unless its fancy in unfancy packaging. They let me take it home so thats what I use but it sure doesnt look that fancy!
