Pregnant after a Loss

Have OB to call, what do I say/ask?

I need to find an OB.  I am terribly unhappy with how my PL was handled by my former practice.  I found a practice that was recommended and I am interested in learning more about.  What do I say?  Should I ask for a consultation with the doctor?  I don't know if they typically do that here, should I ask to speak with the doctor?

Also, can you help me think of good questions that will help me discover if this is the right practice for me?  TIA for any help...

Re: Have OB to call, what do I say/ask?

  • I switched OBs for the exact same reason.  When I found my current doctor I called and explained that I was looking for a new doctor and wanted to make an appointment to meet with her.  During the appt. I briefly told her my m/c experience and what was important to me with my next doctor and just felt her out.  Honestly, I probably would've been happy with anyone after my last doctor and the fact that she listened and appeared to understand where I was coming from made me feel 10 times better.  For the most part I've been pretty happy with her-- definitely happier than the last doctor.

  • When I got pg with my 1st pg (which ended in a m/c) we did not have an OB. I knew I wanted a MW practice so we I called around and scheduled several "meet and greets". We were able to meet a MW and ask a whole bunch of questions. 2 of the practices were in a hospital so I would think you can do the same with the medical DR. practice.

Since I did interviews before I m/c I asked a lot of questions about their what labor with them would be like. What powers I have, etc. Since you have had a loss I would for sure talk about what you did not like at the last place and how they would be different, etc. We did not have a list or anything. Good luck. I am sorry you had a bad experience with your last Dr. I hope youe new one is great.

  • I also switched ob's for the same reason.  I just made a regular appt with them and then asked a lot of questions the first appt to make my decision on whether or not I would stay.  I asked a lot about how they would handle my situation and what I should expect.  I also spent lots of time on their website beforehand and looking up reviews to get an idea of what I could expect.  Good luck and I hope this one is much better!!
