2nd Trimester

anyone have any warm coat recommendations?

My boobs are preventing last year's coat from fitting even now... and the Old Navy peacoat I ordered is going back, way too thin to cut it for Chicago winters!

Re: anyone have any warm coat recommendations?

  • I need one too, but don't want to break the bank.
  • Loading the player...
  • Gap had some cute maternity wool coats... or you could just get a regular woman's coat that fits over the boobs that you can use post baby and layer under it.
  • I refuse to spend alot of money on maternity clothes if any at all. I am using DH's jacket until I pop this kid out!!
  • I ended up wearing DH's last night.  I think my plan as I get bigger is to just start taking over some of his coats.
  • I use DH leather jacket from Quicksilver. It's a tad big BUT it doesn't swallow me like it used to. It is a nice black one so I can wear it with most stuff. Since Houston weather is so up and down on when its cold and when its warm I didn't want to go spend a bunch of money on a coat. This was my solution and has worked wonderfully.
  • I know this prob wont help you much, but my regular coat is not fitted so I am still wearing that.  I have had friends offer me their older coats (pre weight loss, etc etc).  Do you know anyone that you could borrow an old coat from?

Hmmm... maybe I will steal DH's peacoat. He is always going on about how warm it is, even his friends in the Merchant Marines were impressed, blah blah blah. I'd appreciate any more ideas though!!!

Btw, I mean a dressier coat... and my boobs are quickly nearing 36F.

  • Hmmm. do you have a store near you that sell used maternity coats?  Or check GoodWill, or your local thrift stores.
  • i also wanted to spend as little as possible on maternity clothes, but live in the chicago area. i bought the old navy puffer coat. it's thinner than i would like, but i expected that from old navy so i also bought the hoodie with the shearling hood lining. i like the hoodie a lot and i think wearing the two combined will be fine. plus, i got them when they were having their big coat sale, so the two combined cost less than $50. i also like the perfomance fleece jacket and it's thinner than the hoodie but feels just as warm so that would be good to underneath the coat, as well. i wanted the option of having a hood because we like to do a lot of outdoor activities even in winter.

otherwise, i think the gap puffer jacket looked like it would be warmer than the old navy one but i haven't seen it in person.

**edit: just noticed your reply that you want a dressier coat, so my post doesn't really apply to you. pregnant women can get away with wearing something more casual, though! for a dressy coat, i'm just going to wear my normal coats with just the top two buttons buttoned, so i'm still no help to you. sorry! i have seen the motherhood maternity coats in person, though, and they are probably just as crappy as the old navy ones, IMO. Sad

  • I ordered this one from Old Navy last week when they were having that huge sale.  I haven't worn it yet so I'm not sure about it's warmth, but it looks like it has enough room.

  • What if you got this or a style like it in a size up to fit your girls? It would probably be forgiving enough to let your belly move. Just a thought!

I have a coat similar to this that I bought last winter as my dress coat for work, and I'm SOOO glad now that I got it. The coat I've been wearing is starting to get a little tight around the hips when I sit down ...the other one will be a lifesaver in a couple weeks, I'm sure.

  • I got a long red wool coat from Motherhood.  They are on sale right now for $50.  I live in Iowa and although it hasn't gotten super cold yet, it's very warm.  It's definitely warmer than what I thought it would be.
