FI and I are going to his parents house for Thanksgiving. We're driving up the day before and I'd like to bring something with me. I would like to know what kind of food would travel well? We'll be driving 12+ hours.
I like homemade mac n cheese. Make it, but don't finish the baking process. Just bring it with you and be ready to pop it in the over when you get there. Either that of you can bake pies and wrap them up.
Bring pie. ?The food network website has a recipe for the very BEST apple pie I have ever tasted. ?It's a caramel apple pie that uses red wine caramel. so freaking good. ?If you use a nice wine (I like to use a Merlot) instead of a cheep wine the pie is totally decadent. The caramel takes a while to make but it's totally worth it. ?Because the caramel takes so long to make I use the pilsbury ready made roll out pie crust rather than fight making pastry. ?Don't be surprised if your caramel sauce turns a little purple. ?it really depends on the wine you use.?
You can freeze anything ahead of time and take that, it will defrost on your way up there and be ready to throw in the oven when you get there. Green bean casserole is your safest bet. Eveyrthing is in cans.
I vote that you bring breakfast. A nice cranberry or pumpkin bread, bagels and Cream cheese, or something along those lines. I don't know what time you eat, but sometimes a morning treat for everyone is good to get everyone through until dinner.
Re: NBR: Need advice for Thanksgiving
I thought about that and then I wondered how it would taste after heating then getting cold and then re-heating.
I thought about baking something, but...my baking...is sometimes a hit or a miss kind of thing.

I second the casserole dish, that will probably be the easiest.
Maybe certain types of desserts...
I may do the green bean casserole, since it's a 3 minute prep. I'll just bring the stuff with me.
Thanks yall.

As well as pig skins. Then I figured the future in-laws would not appreciate that too much.
