Facebook privacy settings: WTF?!

Hey Gals,

After reading some of the posts below, I headed over to Google and Facebook to double-check how easy I was to "find" online.  I found my Facebook page right away when I googled my name, and all of my FB information is open to the public! 

I am p!ssed!!  I know I set my settings on there so that everything was private; profile, friends, everything.  Now that I'm trying to re-set them, FB isn't allowing me to change anything.  The Privacy page is completely blank.  Anyone else having this issue?

No help with Facebook since I don't have one but are you sure you're not signed in already and that's why you can see all your info?

I just did the same thing but all you see is my friends and my first pic. It also came up in another language as well which was a bit creepy.

oo and all the people i am friends with..their profiles came up too. Wow creepy.

That's what I was hoping, Bada.  I wish the answer was "yes" but unfortunately not.  I joined FB just now under an e-mail I never use to search further.  Sure enough, I could access my account and snoop away.

You have to be careful with facebook because what some people don't realize that even when you have your stuff set to "private" if you don't choose that only your friends can see stuff - their friends can see your stuff too.

So say you put a picture up of you and doodle and note that doodle is in there.  I'm not friends with you, but I am with Doodle.  So I click on the picture - because it will show up on my newsfeed because I'm friends with her - and then I can see all your pictures event though I'm not your friend.

Ditto.  Unless you have logged out, meaning actually clicked the log out button, this can happen.  I've never had a problem with FB settings, if you change them so only your friends can see your profile, you will not come up in a Google search.

I just googled my name but my facebook doesn't show up so I'm not sure what to tell you.  Mine is set so that nobody can view my info unless I approve them as a friend.

Hmm... are you sure?  Because I think Bada is right.  I just googled myself (I am NOT logged into FB right now) and I couldn't see anything.

Thanks Margarita and MrsJA, I'm trying that now.  I hope you're all correct and I'm just being overly-cautious here.

Just make sur eyou customize your privacy settings. You can always change the people who are able to search for you.

Thanks, everyone!  I was able to get to the Privacy Settings page, it finally loaded.  It still shows that only "Friends" can access any/all of my information.  I'll keep checking to see if that's the case after I log out.
