Sleeping option for toddler too big for PnP?

DD is just about too big for the pack and play now, but we'll be traveling to relatives for the holidays and we need to find something for her to sleep on... DH is thinking of just taking the air mattress we have for her, but we'll all be sleeping in one room and the air mattress is a queen size. I just don't think there'll be enough room for that in the room. I'm thinking a sleeping bag doesn't have quite enough padding to just lay it on the ground. And hauling bed rails and putting her in another room just isn't an option.

I know I've seen nap mats for preschoolers...but I can't seem to find any that have padded bases. Has anyone seen any? Or are there any other options?

Thanks!

  • I'm going to be in the same predicament..do they make twin size blow up mattresses?  that's what i was going to look at.

  • dd has one she uses when she goes to my moms and she loves it!!!!
  • I know they make up blow up single/twin size mattresses that the sides come up a tad, so that there is no rolling off. I think www.onestepahead.com has them. This is what we are going to do in the future (right now, ds is still small enough for the pnp, although he takes his naps in a twin bed at Grammy's).
  • Honestly, kids don't mind sleeping on the floor (or at least mine never have nor anyone I know).  A sleeping bag on the floor is exciting and a new adventure at this age.  If you really want a mattress, there is an air mattress specifically for toddlers. They have a few options at Amazon including one with padded sides so they can't roll out as easily.
  • we have a toddler ready bed.  You can get them at target/walmart, but I found ours at Tuesday Mornings for super cheap.
  • You can look into travel cots.  We have a blow up mattress, but it is a single, so it doesn't take up that much room.  It may be a good idea to get another air mattress in a smaller size for these occasions.

  • Thanks everyone! I love the one from One Step Ahead...but I really don't want to spend $70. I think the Ready Bed will be a good alternative--I'll have to check Target or Walmart the next time we're there. Any tips on WHERE in those stores the kids Ready Beds are located?

(Oh, and it's not that I don't think she COULD sleep on the floor, but I don't want her getting up and wandering around (we'll all be up on the second floor and I worry about her falling down the huge flight of stairs at my inlaws) and I think she'll sleep better if she's more "contained" lol.)

    Thanks!

  • We have the Aero bed for kids- it is great!
  • Nevermind - I just read the rest of your post and you didn't want to spend that much (it is similiar to the one from one step ahead).
  • they are usually with camping stuff.  GL!
  • Just responding so I can refer to this later. We're traveling in January and I know I'll need to figure something out for DS.

  • Hey there!

Gretchen has slept on an Aerobed for kids since shortly after she was a year (she hated the pack 'n' play and outright refused it on a trip we took when she was 11 months).

    She loves it!

  • And a sleeping bag is fine if it's a short trip. . . we just take long trips and want her to be comfy on the air mattress.  I would HIGHLY recommend getting an air mattress with an electric pump instead of a foot pump if you're going that route.  It takes 60 seconds to blow up Gretchen's mattress.  I assure you, the $70 investment has repaid itself 10-fold.
