What do you feed your 10 month old?

Hi All - My ten month old has started swatting the spoon away and wants to finger feed herself but I'm not sure what to give her so that she gets enough.  What are your babies eating on average?  Please write out a typical day with meals, snacks & oz of formula or bm.  My daughter is on the small side so I'm obsessed with her eating habits.  Thanks!

Re: What do you feed your 10 month old?

  • My DS was on all table foods by then.  I am trying to remember what I fed him at that point.  Some of the early finger foods I remember giving him were:

Boca Burgers (they are very soft), frozen veggie pancakes (by Radner's...in freezer section), regular frozen pancakes, banana pieces, muffins (they just crumble), banana bread, canned pears in lite juice, oyster crackers, puffs, cheerios, toast.

  • I"m way too lazy right now to figure out a typical day -- I'd say at age 10 mo (now 12 mo) she was having about 4 bottles a day of 6-8 oz.  In addition, some finger foods she eats:

bananas, clementines, chicken, ground turkey, deli turkey, cheese, peas (her favorite!), pancakes (another favorite, no butter or syrup), apples, pasta - just for some ideas.

also, on days I felt like she didn't feed herself much, I'd try giving her something from a spoon as well (oatmeal, applesauce, yogurt, etc).  sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't but I figure if she was still hungry, she'd take it from the spoon.  she much prefers feeding herself too

  • Honestly, she just eats what we eat. There are some things she can't eat very well, like rice, LOL. So I make her noodles when we have rice, but everything else is the same, just cut into bite size pieces. Although at 11.5 months she's starting to  be better at taking bites. She was on 4, 6oz bottles  of formula at that age, plus milk & water in sippy cups.

I've never actually measured her food.

  • oh yeah -- pp reminded me of zucchini pancakes and spinach pancakes (frozen section).  dd loves those!
  • My nine month old has refused all solids until just the past week or so, now she's gone straight to table foods. I guess she just didn't like babyfood at all and was waiting until we would give her "real" food, LOL.

I've pretty much been just giving her the same things that we're eating. I try to make sure that there's at least one thing each night at dinner that she can eat- I'll make an extra baked potato (she especially seems to like baked sweet potato), remove the skin, cut it into cubes and it will feed her for several meals. She really likes brocolli too- I just give her steamed pieces. She sucks the floret part off and throws the stalk right on the ground, LOL. She's eaten pancakes and oatmeal. I've also soft-boiled some eggs and just let her eat the yolk. I'll also give her plain rice, any kind of fruit or cooked veggie, and we've also just started to try some beans.

For the most part, she just feeds herself these things. That really means that she just plays with it, smears it around her tray and just a little bit actually makes it to her mouth, but I'm okay with that- she's got to start somewhere!
