Can we say "Class Action Lawsuit"? Target

I know it's just a carseat, but seriously, a business cannot run a price and then back out on it at this level and expect everyone to just "let it go". I just called to find out what happened since I hadn't received an email. The price error was just too drastic, but I can buy it at full price! Gee, thanks. Sometimes stores just have to take it up the a$$ and deal with their own errors.

  • Yeah, it sucks, but really, it's NOT a huge deal.  It's not life or death.

Would I have loved to get that seat for that price?  Of course.  Am I going to do anything since I'm not?  Nope.  Not worth me worrying about.

  • I know it's not life or death, but seriously, I've been notified of the lawsuits over things as minute as shipping on a BMG music order. I don't think they should get away with this (on principle). If people don't ever do anything about businesses doing stuff like this, customers will be given the shaft whenever a store feels like it.

  • It's one of those "oh well" things.  yeah I'm sad that I'm not getting them at that price, but like bubbly I've got bigger fish to fry.

  • I'm not sure but I would guess somewhere on their site it says they are not responsible for typos.?

  • It's those stupid class action lawsuits over trivial things that cause prices to go up for everyone else.

  • Do yourself a favor...

Contact an attorney. Describe in detail what happened and the loss you incurred. Ask him/her about a class action law suit.

Then, come back here and share what you've learned.

Agreed. I don't get this "I'm so done with Target" attitude that people are copping. Yeah, it's unfortunate that we didn't get the seats we wanted, but we were all basically trying to cheat the system and we lost. No big deal.

She's crafty - and she's just my type.
  • Class action lawsuits are bad news.  Medical class actions are one reason why insurance premiums for doctors are so high which in turn causes medical care to be more expensive.

As for the carseat, you weren't damaged because you didn't get it so there is really no grounds for a lawsuit.  You can still get one, just not for $40.  And they cancelled the order for you, they didn't try to sneak the real price by you and make you jump through hoops to cancel the order.

I'm not directing this to you specifically, just in general I think people need to let it go.  I ordered a carseat and a snowblower last night, but I knew full well when I ordered there was a strong possibility that the orders would be cancelled.

  • A class action lawsuit? Seriously?

    Get over it.

  • I'm not the least bit fussed about the money. Just the insulting and patronizing attitude of staff.

A bit of grovelling goes a LOOOONG way. Get down on your knees and apologize better than my 2 year old and I'll be happy Target :-)?

  • yeah I don't think it's that big of a deal. I just had time to kill and called to see what would happen. But hey I got a GC out of it hehe.

  • The error was not done with malicious intent which is why I personally think people should get over it. I made a mistake quoting an interest rate for one of my dad's agents and kept apologizing for it (because then my dad needs to honor it)..I felt like such a horibble employee and he said "the day I become perfect is the day I could be upset with you about this...everyone makes a msitake now and then."
  • No need for me to repeat what A&C said, but I have to add that I am LMAO at the idea of a lawsuit.

  • Grace - as a lawyer I too think a suit is silly. But the difference to your situation ?lies in the fact YOU KEPT APOLOGISING. That's all I really want, a bit of grovelling and a bit less of "well technically we covered ourselves so we can do idiotic things and be rude about it".

Grovelling gets my forgiveness every time.?

  • Mind you, a lawsuit when the language on the website (and I design sites for a living, that all go under attorney-CYA language), protects the company.

You are an idiot.  It's people like you who drive up the costs for everyone else.  An attorney would laugh in your face.  Price mistakes happen all the time on the web.  Don't b!tch because you couldn't save a few bucks.

    Wow, really?  Name calling??

I love how she's getting insults and condescenscion thrown at her left and right here, yet grown women are calling her names, and that's just hunky dory.  LOL, this whole thing is just laughable.

  • MLML-Do you also abuse servers? when I was a waitress and made an input error for a food order some people would act like I just murdered their dog or something. I think wanting people to grovel is just silly. Mistakes happen and making someone grovel is just being petty. I felt bad for my dad because my mistake actually cost him money and he still didn't want me to even feel bad for a second.

Ditto. Just because a lawsuit is an overreaction is no reason to call names. Much more fair to call Target IT staff names for the original error (and I'm not doing that either).?

I think it is just as fair to say Target is driving up its prices by employing people to draft so much legalese to get it out of mistakes it gets itself into. Better to spend that money on a decent IT dept imho. But hey that's jmo.?

  • I don't know, maybe it's just the truth.  I didn't call her an idiot, but I probably thought it in my head.

A lawsuit over a $40 carseat from a site that has CYA language over it is pretty idiotic.  It might even be the definition of the word.

But you're right, this post is hilarious!  I'm still giggling.  Lawsuit... tee hee.

  • No of course I don't abuse servers. But if they made an idiotic error and they grovel I will tip them as usual. If they make an idiotic error and try to make out it wasn't, or it was my fault, or it isn't an error at all, well that's dandy. I just quietly don't tip them.

The hip pocket is the only way to communicate with people who have problems with apolgising for their mistakes.?

  • It wasn't their IT department.  It was probably some merchant or web pricing person who made the error.  They have MILLIONS of SKUs.  This was just one.  Yes, it was a big difference from the real price and I would guess someone is probably going to lose their job over it based on the response customer care is getting right now.

?Exactly! Who cares? It is a car seat. We all knew it was a killer deal & had to be a mistake. Everyone getting all riled up over this is hilarious! Life goes on people. Lawsuit.....HA!?

  • Yeah it sucks but they have the right to not honor it.  I know yesterday someone said there was a law stating if a store displayed the wrong price they had to honor it and I would be shocked if that were true - yes most will honor it but I cannot imagine it is b/c of any law.  I would not be suprised if you are talking thousands of orders for each of these items, in todays economy that can really hurt a store.  And let's be honest, are you really going to avoid Target after this?  They will still get all of our business.

  • I just have to laugh at a class action lawsuit.  This is why insurance premiums are soo freaking high.  People are sue happy and in this instance it is not going to happen anyway!  I LOVE TARGET and will always shop there!
