As a resident coupon expert, I'll try and answer this.
If you used a manufacturer's coupon, you should get the entire amount of th sale back as a refund. They were reimbursed by the MFR, and got their money for the item.
If you used a Target coupon, you may run into some resistance. A store coupon acts as a sale price, reducing the amount you pay out of pocket at the store's expense.
