DS was to the dr. about 1.5 weeks ago and he had an ear infection, pink eye and a bit of a red throat. Dr. put him on a "strong" antibiotic to cure all 3 things. I had him to the dr. last monday because he was running a fever and pulling at his ears. Dr. said ear infection was gone, pink eye was gone but still a wee bit red in the throat, but he still had 3 days left on the atibiotic and she said if it's strep the antibiotic would take care of it. DS was running a fever all weekend long (99-102.5) he's refusing to eat much of anything unless it's gummy and "slippy" he's only drinking gatorade and has barely had any wet diapers, i swear i could of gotten through sat. and sun. by keeping him in the same diaper that's how little he has peed, and he has pooped just a wee bit. Has anyone's DC been like this?? If he doesn't eat anything today i'm calling the dr. tomorrow and demanding his pedi see him, but i really think i'm going to hear the "it's viral and needs to run it's course" line.
Re: DS is sick- dr. says it's viral??
Does Motrin help his sore throat? I'm not sure about temps (P has only had a temp maybe twice so far).
There are lots of things you can make to eat that are soft/slippery, etc. If he will eat those, then I would give him those. Also, you might try warming his drinks up (warm cider, warm milk (not too much milk though, because of the mucus), that will help his throat too.
I hope he feels better soon. Good luck
I have never given him motrin, i have always been a tylenol person... excuse my lack of knowledge here, but are motrin and tylenol different???
and i never thought about warming up his drinks! i have tried putting a variety of slippery soft foods in front of him, but he can be so picky and wont eat any of it!
Motrin has always worked for DS. Tylenol never has.
DS liked pedialyte too whenever he wasn't getting enough nutrients from being sick. He LOVES his milk, cider, water warmed up when he is sick too. He drinks much more that way.
You can try, eggs, eggs w/cheese, avocado, mushed broccoli, mushed caulilflower, mushed carrots, applesauce, pudding, mushed peas, cottage cheese - I'm sure there are other's that I'm just not thinking of. These foods always helped when P was (is in our case now) teething too.
