Please don't flame me for this ... I'm sure this is characterized as a paranoid pregnancy question, but I need to ask b/c I need reassurance.
I don't usually eat any artificial sweetners at all, esp while pg, but I didn't realize that the bagels I bought and ate today had sucralose in them.
Did you eat some splenda while you were pg? What did your OB say about it? Did your DC turn out okay?
Thank you!
Re: Did you eat/drink sucralose (splenda) while pg?
Yes, I had GD with my first and was borderline with my second so I used sweeteners (especially Splenda). I'm sure your DC will be just fine.
I've had them on occasion with both pregnancies. I'm sure that a few bagels now and then won't hurt you. I think that everything in moderation is fine.
Absolutely. I think I had splenda almost every day in my coffee. I just prefer the taste of splenda to that of sugar (in coffee anyway). I also had diet pepsi almost every day, and I know some people are paranoid about aspartame.
DD is a normal 2 1/2 year old... 1 head, 10 fingers, 10 toes, throws the usual tantrums, won't stop talking, etc.
I never asked my OB about it. I did a little research myself online.

Nope, never. With my first PG, my doctor said no artificial sweeteners EXCEPT for Splenda, but I don't really eat much sweetened, processed food, so it wasn't an issue for me. When I bake or cook, I generally use honey, maple syrup, fruit purees or molasses, anyway.
With this PG, my doctor changed his reccomendation. He said no artificial sweeteners AT ALL, including Splenda. When I asked him about the change, he said there are some very recent studies out linking artificial sweeteners in PG to diabetes in kids.
