Pregnant after a Loss

Question about placenta previa

This is sort of a follow-up question to my original post from yesterday.  I had brown spotting for a day or two around 16 weeks so my OB/GYN did an ultrasound.  It He did say I had a "low-lying placenta" which could have triggered it, but wasn't sure.  He also put it in his notes.

So now when I go to my 20-week ultrasound at the hospital, the hospital doctor labeled it as 'placenta previa' because there was a slight covering of the cervix.  I guess my concern is that it sounds like my placenta is actually moving downward or hasn't even moved in 4 to 5 weeks....if it was 'low-lying' (not touching) 5 weeks ago and now it's covering the cervical opening.  Shouldn't there have been some upward movement in this time frame?

Does this make any sense or am I overnanalyzing?  I'm just really worried about this.  Thanks!

Re: Question about placenta previa

  • to the best of my understanding, most previas resolve in the third trimester when your uterus is growing rapidly. ?from 16 to 20 weeks, your uterus probably hasn't grown enough for resolution. ?i wouldn't worry about it too much (easier said than done). ?sounds like it's a partial previa, not a complete previa?

  • I think you still have lots of time for it to resolve and many do. It is good that your dr keeps an eye on it. Try not to worry too much. I know it sounds scary. I hope all will be okay.
