I have watched coverage of the trial and news reports but I am still unsure of something and not looking to start a huge debate. I see there is a movement to create a federal civil case and I am not sure what makes this civil rights. When I think of civil rights I think of equal voting rights, discrimination, deprecate schools, etc. while the ca is very sad, what part is a civil rights case. Would all murder/ manslaughter be civil rights. It does not seem that Zimmerman was targeting Martin because of his race. He was unsure of h is race on the 911 call. Ident just a sad situation that shouldn't have happened? Would all cases of murder that are found not guilty go to a civil rights case?
Re: Trevon Martin question
Eta: reading fail on my part. Sorry I'm unaware of what you speak of
Hate crime.
This obviously isn't MUD, but think about it, OP.
Think.
NPR was saying the bar us super high and the cases that have been won were white supremacist types. I will be surprised if there is a case brought forth.
Zimmerman didn't make a Stand Your Ground a part of his defense.
I was under the impression that wording similar yo it was used, but the actual stand your ground law was not used as part of his defense. I could be wrong, but I heard form multiple sources on tv. Which probably means nothing. I didn't watch the trial, so...
Here's the dispatch transcript: https://misterbillohno.newsvine.com/_news/2013/07/10/19392176transcriptofgeorgezimmerman911call
You have been following the case, but think his name is Trevon? mmmmkay.
ETA: okay, other's already pointed that out. Never mind me.
beachgirl1977:I read the transcript. He was asked what he looked like.
And why was he on the phone with the cops in the first place? Because he saw a black person committing the crime of walking. Ooooh. So suspicious.
If you think that Zimmerman would have called the cops if a white boy was walking along with his hoodie up then you are out of your ever loving mind.
Trayvon was doing nothing wrong and was not "suspicious". Zimmerman decided he was suspicious because he was a black person walking in the rain. And you wonder if race is involved? Seriously?
Is that you?
Unable to even.

You don't understand the appeal of Benedict Cumberbatch / think he's fug / don't know who he is? WATCH SHERLOCK. Until you do, your negative opinion of him will not be taken seriously.
ok. That's seriously funny.
Bye girl!!
So, if you don't use insanity as part of your defense, the judge can still instruct the jury to use the elements of the insanity defense while deliberating? That makes absolutely no sense.
If he didn't use the defense of SYG, why was it brought up during jury instructions? As I said, I didn't watch the trial, so I assuming you did, and know if there was a reason the judge did this.
