August 2013 Moms

We got it!!

Turns out it wasn't gunk, it was the entire clear backing had gone up into her ear. It was a double backed earring and the clear piece had gone entirely into her ear. When I tried cleaning it I noticed a hard clear piece. I asked DH if her other earring was a double back and he said no. I pushed the front of her earring to see and sure enough, there was almost a half inch long backing in there!! This one had the clasp and then the clear piece in front of it. I know that is backwards as the clear piece usually goes behind the clasp. I started to cry while I was pulling it out because she was crying so hard. I felt so bad. Thanks to those that gave advice!! We are going to let it rest now since it is really big (think gauged ears) and sore of course.

Re: We got it!!

  • I'm glad you got it situated. Just one more thing you didn't need to deal with right now. Hopefully you can relax a bit now!

  • Glad to hear. Hope she's not in too much torment. Maybe an ice pack for her swollen lobes.
  • Yuck. Poor kid.

FWIW, I've been told by piercers to stay away from peroxide. Salt water isn't as harsh, and encourages healing vs scaring.

  • LOL, I just typed out a detailed response to your previous thread!

I still reccommend the salt water soaks for general cleaning, though.

  • Yeah.  Great news!
  • Aww poor thing!! I had the exact thing happen to me years ago! Definitely make sure it's cleaned out well and I'd keep it out for a little while to let her ear recoup.

I saw, but mobile won't let me open it so I have to wait until I get home and can get on my computer. :]

Agreed. Use salt water. Much better for healing than peroxide.

  • aww poor kid! glad you figured it out.
  • Good thing it's out before it got worse! Try ice on the lobes. I'm sure they are red, warm and swollen. That should help. Also, a disinfectant saline solution might help like the kind over in the contact solution aisle. That's what I put on my nose piercing.
  • Poor little girl!! Glad you got it out though.

Epsom salt. Not idonized table salt. I used to work in a tattoo piercing shop and just wanted to clarify.

You can get epsom salt any where. I got a big bag of it at target a couple weeks ago for contractions and back pain.

For your lo make sure its unsented so that it pulls out the infection and helps it heal. And i do swear by epsom salt for infected cuts and in grown hairs. And now epsom salt baths for back aces and contractions.
