Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Not sleeping through the night anymore

My 11 month old has always been a good night sleeper. Never a good napper. We have used a bedtime routine since he got his first bath. He has slept through the night since 3 weeks. Now at 11 months he is waking up in the middle of the night. I change his diaper and offer him some water in a sippy when he wakes up and then I sit with him and rub his back until he falls asleep just like I do at bedtime. Sometimes he goes right back to sleep. Other times he screams and fights. Could it be because of his teeth ( he is a late teether and now we have 6 coming in). If any other mommas went through this how long did it last. Any advice is appreciated!

Re: Not sleeping through the night anymore

  • The same thing happened with my LO. Shes always been a great sleeper but at around 9 months she would wake up between 3 and 6 times a night. She had 6 teeth coming in at that time too. My doctor also thought that she might be having a little bit of separation anxiety but I am pretty sure it was just the teeth. There wasn't much we could do about it. I gave her tyenol sometimes to help her sleep and it did help but I tried to avoid giving her meds as much a possible. Eventually they came in and she started sleeping 11+ hours straight again. It might just take some time and will be something you have to deal with for a month or two. Hang in there!
