Fur Baby

Our fur baby didn't seem to mind when we put together the crib a few months ago but he pouted and curled himself up in a ball on the couch while we put together the pack n play. It made me so sad! I hope he loves our new addition as much as we do. Poor pup made me feel awful!

Re: Fur Baby

  • Aww! I'm sure he'll get used to it, just try to reinforce that it's a good thing with lots of cuddles!! We just discovered our kitty's tolerance line...the monitor with a talk feature. It freaks her out to hear us but not know where it's coming from.

  • Aawww. I bet he will love the baby. They definitely sense change but I am shocked that our dog hasn't been bothered by anything we've set up.

  • Mine has been acting out a little with the pregnancy like keeps getting into the bathroom trash which she never did before. We set everything up in the living room last weekend so she wos adjust and so far she just sniffed and could careless which I hope continues when the baby comes haha.
  • I'm convinced our pets don't care at all.

  • One of our dogs is terrified of the sleep sheep! Everything else has been fine, swing, crib, cd of baby crying, but the heart beat and whale sounds of the sleep sheep send him running with his tail tucked! We've been working on positive reinforcement whenever the scary sounds play (petting, treats, etc). I would say definitely plan on giving lots of treats/toys/good things whenever the baby is around, especially at first, to build that positive association!

  • Awwww!! We just set up the swing and have started turning it on and letting it swing periodically just to get our furbabies used to it. I was sure one of them would panic (he freaks out about everything, he is a rescue who is a bit on the skittish side) but no, they both ignored it completely. I've also played the sounds of a baby crying and they don't have any reaction. Even so I don't want them to feel left out when LO arrives so we will be sure to make them feel extra loved!

  • Pups didn't mind the crib, but when I brought the stroller/car seat box in the house today he wouldn't stop sniffing! :

  • Our puppy has been okay with everything being set up. She even seemed fine when we did all of the bedroom floors over.

....Until we got a sound soother! The nursery is under the sea themed and we have a dolphin soother. It makes the white noise, heart beat, ocean, and dolphin noises. She is so scared of it. I'm trying to play it often so she can get used to it.

Start with the sounds on the lowest setting, and feed her lots of treats while it's on. Do this several times a day until she doesn't react to the noise, then turn up the volume a little bit. Keep doing this slowly over time! until you reach full volume. If you do it carefully, she'll actually reach a point where she starts getting happy/excited when she hears the sound! It's desensitization/counter conditioning, and you have to be patient but it's VERY effective! Just make sure you don't "flood" her don't start with the volume too high/too close/too long or you could end up making her more afraid.
