too many inserts?

I started cding my son in toddlerhood, so baby cding is new to me. We did Best Bottoms with ds, and plan to use them with this one.

I purchased 32 small inserts. I figured that will get me 2.5-3 days between washing in the early days. I have a feeling I bought too many though! The BB site recommends 18-24 inserts per size, but when they are small I could see going through at least 10-12 a day. I have a few days to return, just wondering if I should.

Re: too many inserts?

  • I don't think that's too many. Even when one isn't enough absorbency when LO gets bigger...can't you use them as the second insert to double up?

    i think that's what I'd so anyway

  • Most people recommend 2432 newborn diapers, so I'd say 32ish would be good. Idk if best bottoms will fit a newborn though.

No the inserts are not designed to snap together. Only the doublers are designed to snap under the inserts.

I currently have 12 medium inserts and now about 4 that I made from old flannel sheets until I decide if I order more mediums, a dozen larges, or a dozen of the next size up prefold, or what. 32 probably is too many of one size, I would return some of them since that is an option.

I started using them on ds at 8ish lbs with the medium inserts and have not had any leaks.

Ditto. I am also waiting to buy the next size up inserts until he actually needs them. This way I will know how many I use between wash days and won't feel like I have too many or not enough.
  • I don't think that is too many either.  I'd rather have extra than not enough, plus it is nice to have extras for laundry day:)
