What to pack for hospital

Hi Ladies,

I am 28 weeks pregnant today and I am starting to think about what I should pack for the hospital. I know I have at least another 12 weeks until I give birth, but I think it's a good idea to start thinking about it. A friend of mine saved packing until last minute, and she forgot simple things like a toothbrush and toothpaste. Is there anything that's not necessary to pack vs. something that is? Thanks!

  • In order to avoid forgetting basic toiletries, I bought a hygiene kit. You  can buy them from WalMart, Target, any drug store or make your own using the travel sized stuff, or get the empty travel containers and fill them with your own stuff. That way, you don't have to take full-sized containers - you're saving room in your suitcase for bulkier items.

  • I've found a few good blogs/sites that have lists!  I'm putting the links below, but essentials seem to be:

Pillow, robe, pajamas, underwear (that you don't mind being able to throw away after), socks, nursing bras, toiletries, going home outfit, magazines/reading material, and a camera!

  • Me
    Robe (cause I like one)
A pair of lounge pants, maybe 2
    Nursing tanks
easy slip on slippers (I don't like their socks)
    My comb (If I remember)
An outfit to go home in (normally lounge pants. I am still in pain form a Csection)
A single pair of undies (to go home in)
Boppy (I prefer it to hospital pillows)
    Deodorant
razor (hospital will not give you one)

    Baby

    Going home outfit
    Socks
    Car seat

    Amusement

    Laptop and charger

    Kindle Fire and charge
    Camera
    Phone charger

    DH

I just make sure to pack him some snacks.
    DH packs his own stuff

    My hospital will provide:
Shampoo/conditioner, body soap, toothpaste, tooth brush, comb (simple one), mesh undies (all provide this. Use them so your undies do not get nasty), pads (stash some to take home!), shirts for baby to wear, Hat for baby, nasil sucky, diapers, wipes, butt cream, I forgot what else..... Oh, they will wrap baby in a recieving blanket or 2 to bring home too. Roll them up to help keep baby snug in car seat. Plus you get a diaper bag in the hospital as a gift from the formula companies.

Either way, if I don't need to pack it, I don't. I do not have a lot of family, but those who come normally bring an outfit or 2 or something. So that is more I have to bring home.

First day or 2 I wear their hospital smock. I am a Csection and bleed a lot after. I do not want to mess up my pants or anything. I am in there 3-5 days.

  • I don't know what toiletries that the hospital will provide but I packed travel size stuff that you can get from cvs or rite aid. I packed shampoo and conditioner, toothpaste, toothbrush my mom works for a dentist so I got a free one, soap, mouthwash, lotion, powder, deodorant, baby shampoo and lotion for her. My MIL bought me a short robe and pjs with matching slippers. I already packed two onsies, socks, hats and winter one piece coat since she will be born in october. Just in case it is cold. I will probably finish packing with sweatpants, under clothes and a comfortable t shirt to
come home in. I think I might pack a small handful of poise pads just in case of extra bleeding. I don't think I would need entertainment because I will be breastfeeding and relaxing.
  • My hospital provides the basic toiletries....toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, shampoo.

In my bag I will have an outfit for LO, comfy/loose fitting clothes for me, a robe, flip flops, brush, hair elastics, deodorant, tucks pads and make up.  Trying to keep is very basic.

Edited to add:  Cell phone charger, LO's baby book and camera.

I was gonna say the exact same thing.  I also packed some bottled water, hand sanitizer, and extra hair ties or clips
