wrist/thumb pain

My wrists and thumbs hurt and ache so bad! Every morning I feel like I have to warm them up to get them to move at all. And they ache the rest of the day. My hands were swollen on top of it yesterday by that could have been from the extreme heat. Anyone else experiencing this and have a good suggestion to help the pain? Thanks!

Re: wrist/thumb pain

  • I have that too. Mine was really bad two weeks ago. Now it seems to be calming down. I didn't do much about it just massaged my hands. But the numbing and pain isn't going no where. Maybe it'll go away after birth?

  • I've been having the same problem in my hands and feet. I talked to my doctor about it and it's due to the swelling cutting off the circulation. It was getting so bad at times that it was waking me up during the night! I increased my fluids a lot and even though I'm still really swollen that seems to be helping. Sorry I don't have any good suggestions.

  • I have been having this exact same pain and my doctor says it is caused by water retention and the hormone relaxin. Relaxin does wonderful things for allowing your rib cage and hips to accommodate a baby but it also relaxes the connective tissue in most joints. Last night my thumb felt like it was halfway dislocated and popped when I pressed it back in.

Wrist braces are supposed to help with the pain by keeping everything aligned correctly all night. I haven't tried them yet but I hope this info helps you!

  • Mine must swell overnight. I sleep without my ring, and my hands ache when I wake up to pee at night. HAven't found anything to stop it.

This. Believe it or not, and I didn't at first, your hormones can aggravate carpal-tunnel or cause symptoms like it. Usually I take anti-inflammatories and sleep with a wrist brace for mine. Also avoid activities that involve moving your wrist a lot, like chopping or hand writing.
