We are waiting until DD is born to name her, but I would like to hear A13's opinion on our front runners. Middle name will be Margaret, after my grandmother.
Sophia (I know its very popular, but its what we always called our "possible future daughter")
Mariam (nickname Mari, pronounced mah-ree). If we spell it Maryam, I feel her nickname would have to be Mary, which I don't like.
Thoughts?
Re: Opinions Wanted on Names and Spelings
Edited for pregnancy brain. Lol.
This! It flows better with your middle name choice!
Seconded.
As a funny side note, our girl name was originally Rita Margaret until a friend pointed out that her NN could be Margarita! Though I could honestly say in good faith that mommy loved her Margarita! ;]
I like Sophia as well.
For what it's worth, I think some people might look at "Mari" and pronounce it "Mary." She might have to correct a lot of pronunciations over the years!

I don't like Sophia - I'm sorry it is too common. There will be 100 other Sophia's in the same school. I'm over it.
I like Miriam. I like Mari. (I have known 1 of each.) They are both smart, creative young ladies. I think Miriam Margaret sounds nice.
Good luck!
LOL! That is awesome. We often joked we should name our baby "Sambuca" as a reference to the night DH and I met...
Maryam/Mariam is the Persian version of the name Miriam, which is more traditionally Jewish.
I suppose that's true, but I've know a few Mari's, so maybe that is why I have faith people might pronounce it correctly. I fail to understand why someone would spell Mary with an "i". But, with all the crazy spellings these days, it's certainly possible.
It is pronounced that way. Family name on DH's side, they are Persian and it is pronounced exactly as you assumed.
This is my thought as well. I have a very common name, and went to school with 8 other girls in my high school class with the same name. However, I did think it was kind of cool to be part of the group. We all spelled it differently.

Sophia Margaret. I really like.
This totally explains why I am so fond of it. I have always been attracted to traditionally Jewish names for either gender.
Also Greek and Arabic names.
I think Sophia is a lovely choice. I am just quite found of a traditional name, that isn't necessarily common. Like Miriam, Mariam, etc.
Our second dd is Emma. Super popular name
