3rd Trimester

Slightly low on Ferratin and B12

I wrote this on a couple other boards. I am trying to get as many people's advice and information.

I went to my regular dr on Wed to discuss why my hands hurt in the morning and go numb and tingly at night and sometimes during the day. She ran some bloodwork and the office just called to let me know that my ferratin and b12 are a little lower than what they'd like. I"m not worried....they want me to take a b12 supplement and come in next week for another draw.

Anyone else have this told to them or gone through it? What does the b12 do and how does it relate to the swollen, numbness...? I am not overweight, I'm 5.5" and I've gained 17 lbs so far, started at around 125. I think the family around me is more nervous than I am....?

  • Are you sure this is not carpal tunnel? It is very common in the later post of pregnancy.

I agree. It sounds like you have carpal tunnel- which has nothing to do with ferritin or b12 levels. Those are more related to your iron stores.

  • My doctor said it was carpal tunnel and suggested wrist braces at night. I've been wearing them for about a month now and they really help with the numbness and tingly feeling when I'm trying to sleep!
  • I wonder this too? She just said I had lower platelet levels, a slightly high level of sonething with liver enzymes, little low on ferratin and b12. She said it can cause the poor circulation. I just didn't know if anyone else has had bloodwork done and had similar results.

Carpal tunnel symptoms like nimbleness and tingling in the Hans can also be caused by a B12 deficiency. I would follow her recommendation.
