Depressed

My parents have just Moved out of their house and I going to North Carolina. This is the first time I'll be more than half an hour away from them. Work is tough right now I have some people that don't seem to be doing their jobs which makes my job tougher. My husband and I are about to rent a townhome we only have an apartment right now and we need something bigger. We plan on moving to North Carolina but we need to wait for a transfer opening first for my husbands job. All of this and more is going on and I feel so depressed and its affecting my husband too. I can cry on command it's ridiculous and these lovely pregnancy hormones don't help. Last night my husband wanted to listen to the baby with the Doppler, normally I'm always excited to do this but last night I just didn't feel like it. My husband thinks I should go to the doctor and be put on an antidepressant if I can even go on one with the pregnancy. I feel like this is more a situational depression? I think that as soon as we move into our town home next week and get situated ill feel better... Anyone else having crazy feelings? I hate it.

Re: Depressed

  • I am sorry things are tough. Moving is very stressful and can aggravate a number of emotions.

Do you have anybody in the area that you can talk to just to have a shoulder to cry on? Also we are here for you.

Your husband maybe hypervigilant but it may be not a bad thing bc antepartum and postpartum depression is a bad thing to miss.

I would talk to him and explain that you think that this is temporary blues and that both of you can sit down and reevalute the situation a couple of weeks after your move.

    Please keep us posted.

  • I'm in a more stable position with this pregnancy, but with my first I was living in San Diego and had never been so far away from my family who live here in Maryland. It was really tough because with a 3 hour time difference, I lived off emails. Scheduling phone calls was hard.

I am really close to my family so I understand not wanting to be away from them! And pregnancy hormones don't help anyone who wants to try to stay positive about ANYTHING! I'm really sorry this is hitting you so hard. :(

I have generalized anxiety that my Dr's thought was depression when I was younger. I've been on Zoloft and Prozac before and didn't really care for either of them. All SSRI's (the category into which more anti-depressants fall) take about a month to kick in, and during that month is when you're most likely to experience side effects like nausea, sleeplessness, changes in appetite. Personally, I wouldn't want to pile that onto the multitude of pregnancy symptoms I already have, but if you are feeling fine, maybe you wouldn't notice it as much. There are anti-depressants that pregnant women can take so if you really feel like it would help, definitely talk to your doctor.

However, since you said you feel like it's more situational, you might benefit more from talking to a counselor of some kind. I benefited from that more than I ever did from medication. You learn how to get more in control of thoughts that bring you down. And it's nice to have someone on your side all the time! :) I know we're all already going to lots of appointments but I think it might be worth it to help you get through the time you're separated from family. Sorry this is so long! I hope you find a good remedy soon. :)
