Scans and Such?

What are the differences between all the scans? U/S, NT, and Anatomy?

Re: Scans and Such?

  • All of them are ultrasounds. I think the NT and AS are generally done with better machines.

NT is Nuchal Translucency screening. It looks for soft markers for chromosomal abnormalities like Down Syndrome and other trisomies. I think they check the heart too.

AS is anatomy scan and they do just that, check the babies anatomy. They measure the head, spine, and limbs. Check out the heart, internal organs, umbilical cord, etc. Watching the high tech machines check out the heart is super cool looking. They usually tell you the sex at this time too.

  • NT I believe they measure a space in the back of the neck to check for Down syndrome markers, a/s they are checking for 2 arms, legs, fingers and toes. They measure each body part to make sure they are the correct length it's usually done around 1920 weeks and they can tell you baby's sex as well. I might be wrong but this is what I think my dr told me.
