3rd Trimester

Dilation at 34 wks 5 days!

I've been having some pretty strong contractions the past few days at random times throughout the day.  I had an appointment today and she confirmed that I am dilated 1 cm at this point. She said it's completely normal and she's not concerned, but it makes this momma a little nervous!!  I understand I could stay at 1 cm for weeks and many people do, but EEK! Just makes it seem so close!

Anyone else dilating around 34/35 weeks?

  • I was hospitalized for PTL, dilated and contracting, at 23/5.  I'm now 35/3.  So yes :)

  • Thanks!! Glad to hear that it happens to others. I am ready to meet our baby girl but she needs a little more time in there!!!

  • Due to PTL episodes, I was 1 cm at 30 weeks, 3 cm at 34 weeks, and 4 cm at 37 weeks. Surprisingly, my LO arrived happy and healthy at 40w1d.
  • I was 50% effaced and 1cm dilated at my 35 week appointment.  Still very pregnant at 38 weeks now!  I also have had BH contractions consistantly since 20 weeks.  It all means nothing as far as how soon the baby will come.  If your doctor isn't worries, I wouldn't be worried!

I’m a modern man, a man for the millennium. Digital and smoke free. A diversified multi-cultural, post-modern deconstruction that is anatomically and ecologically incorrect. I’ve been up linked and downloaded, I’ve been inputted and outsourced, I know the upside of downsizing, I know the downside of upgrading. I’m a high-tech low-life. A cutting edge, state-of-the-art bi-coastal multi-tasker and I can give you a gigabyte in a nanosecond! I’m new wave, but I’m old school and my inner child is outward bound. I’m a hot-wired, heat seeking, warm-hearted cool customer, voice activated and bio-degradable. I interface with my database, my database is in cyberspace, so I’m interactive, I’m hyperactive and from time to time I’m radioactive.

  • Try not to worry.  Like you said, you can be dilated for weeks, it doesn't indicate labor is near.

Keep all of your appointments so your OB can keep an eye on it, but I wouldn't get too worked up.

  • I'm 32w4d now and I'm dilated 2cm, 40% effaced.  In the hospital for PTL at the moment, but OB is fairly confident we can make it for a while longer!

  • I was 1.5 cm and 70 percent effaced at around 32w. I started having non timeable contrax around 33w and my water broke at 34w.

My boys spent 13 days in the NICU.
