Train table or train set???

I wanted to get DS a train table for christmas, but when we were at Toys R Us last weekend, a lady told us she hated the table and it was better to get a train set to put on the floor. 

 I'm not sure what to do, I like the train table idea because it's his level, ya know?  And I won't have to put it together, take it apart, put it together, take it apart, pieces getting lost...

 But a table takes up considerable room, right? 

So, what's your vote?  Yay or Nay on the table.

We have a table. It has a lip so the trains can't roll off, unless thrown of course. My only complaint so far is that my 14 month old loves to climb on top of it, break apart the railroad pieces, throw them to the ground and declare himself master of the universe.

Hmm I cannot imagine not having a table to keep everything in order.  He does take the tracks on and off, but they would be everywhere without the table.  When things get out of control we just set the track back up and he plays with it like that for a while.  He will break parts off and play on the floor and then continue to play on the table.

The table also can be used for anything if they get sick of the trains.  He builds with his blocks, puts his animals up there etc.  It is big, but he uses every inch of it, lol.  I would get the table and build it up piece by piece.  And btw if you get thomas, you can get a lot of stuff at Michaels for a lot less.  Even reg. price is about 2$ less per train and then you can get one everytime you have a 40% of coupon.  Soooo much cheaper than TRU.
