Co-sleeping and feeding

Hi, question for those of you who are co-sleeping..my baby is a month old, we co-sleep with him in a snuggle nest.   He doesn't wake or cry during the night to eat.   Instead, he grunts and starts getting very fidgety in his sleep every three to four hours.   When he starts fidgeting I wake up and I basically feed him while he is still asleep.  Does anyone else have this experience?

At first I was proud that my baby never had to cry to eat during the night but now I am wondering if I should begin to ignore the fidgets to start to get him to sleep through the night.

Curious to know how the rest of the co-sleepers are handling this.

Re: Co-sleeping and feeding

  • We are not really co sleeping, mostly because of all the grunts and other noises she makes in the night. I do not feed her in the motn unless she starts fussing.

Not cosleeping, but my daughter will stir throughout the night and go back to sleep. I don't feed her until it's obvious that she isn't going back to sleep. At that point I try to feed her before she fully wakes and starts to cry so that she'll go back down.

This. LO sleeps in the PnP in our room and moves and grunts a lot. I will usually wait a couple minutes because sometimes she stops and stays asleep. If it goes on for five minutes or more, I know she is pretty much going to start fussing for food so I get up and nurse her. If she actually cries, that's an automatic get up for me, but she rarely does that.

  • Abbie wakes once a night for about 2min of grunting and then falls back asleep. I don't feed her. Think its just her in between sleep cycles. I hardly wake for it anymore. She lets me know when she's hungry or wet ... Very different kind of grunting or waking sounds. We don't count it as a wake for STTN and is doing 6 to 8 hrs a night.
  • Yep I will hear her start grunting and smacking her lips. I will latch her on and go to sleep. She has been sleeping 12 hours and I wake her to feed her once because my boobs start to hurt. But if I hear her looking for a boob I latch her and go back to sleep and she is happy and falls back asleep if she really even wakes up.

My baby also sleeps in a Snuggle Nest. He has usually been fussing and fidgeting for a while before he wakes me up! I watch him for a minute and if he keeps fussing and smacks his lips then I feed him. Last night he ate and didn't wake up, but usually he poops so I have to change him. Luckily he only wakes up once or twice!
