I had an awful experience at the doctor's today. ?They fit me in because of bleeding/possible miscarriage, and left me waiting (while cramping and continuing to bleed) for almost 2 hours in the lobby. ?I was trying, but failing, to hold back tears while surrounded by happy PG ladies and sounds of fetal heart tones through the thin walls. ?
By the time they called my name, I was a bawling mess. ?The doctor was nice though, and very empathetic. ?He did a transvaginal ultrasound, which, along with increased bleeding, confirmed m/c #2.
I came home, put away all the baby books I'd been reading, hugged the cats and cried some more. ?DH has been wonderful and very handy with hugs and tissues.
We saw an RE earlier this year for an initial consultation. ?He checked my thyroid level (normal) but that was it. ?I want to schedule an appt. with a different doctor for a more thorough evaluation. ?I've now had 2 m/c's within 8 months, and I want to make sure I don't have any autoimmune or other disorder that is causing this. ?Can anyone tell me what an RE work-up is supposed to cover? ?
Thanks for the support & info.
Re: Update & RE Q
I have no clue about the RE workup but I'm so so so incredibly sorry for your loss.

I'm so sorry for your loss and for having to deal with that at your Dr's. I think once I got my doing better I would probably complain.
I know when my I had my miscarriage my Dr told me that if I had another one she would start finding out what -if anything- could be causing it. However, she didn't get into specfics. Not much help, sorry.
Again I'm so sorry.
Request a recurrent loss panel (RPL). Here's a link to give you an idea of what they test for. It requires about 13 vials of blood drawn in one sitting. https://www.millenova.com/tests/preglosspan.cfm Your insurance may or may not cover it.
Before I wanted to TTC, I had to see an RE because I was having missed periods. They did a cycle day 3 test to measure my hormone levels and did an ultrasound to check my ovaries and rule out PCOS.
I am so so sorry for you. I can't imagine how you are feeling right now.
Regarding work-up with an RE. When I started I had to get an absurd amount of bloodwork. FSH / LH / Estradiol, Infectious Screen (chlamydia, hepatitis, syphilis, HIV, mycoplasma, gonorrhea), Pre-Pregnancy Screen: (Blood type and Rh Factor, Rubella titer, complete blood count), Prolactin, TSH.
Saline Sonogram; evaluate the inside of the uterine cavity. The HSG can also provide information regarding the fallopian tubes. Complete Physical Examination and Pelvic Ultrasound. I also ended up getting a hysteroscopy because I had a few fibroids that they didn't think were a problem-but said it can't hurt to remove. (after they did this procedure-my periods became more normal-before I would spot for like 4 days, bleed for 2 and spot for another 4. Now I am over & done in 5 days tops.)
They also requested I get a mammogram.
So, so very sorry ((hugs))
I think you're right. Time to see an RE and do a fertility workup. You might have low progesterone which is causing you to miscarry. That can be a simple thing to fix with supplements or other drugs, just do a search on the internet. When you get bloodwork, they test your Estradiol (estrogen), FSH, TSH (thryroid), LH and P4 (progesterone). Many women have low P4 (like me) and that's an issue with getting pg and sustaining a pregnancy. If you've been charting you might notice there's a problem if your luteal phase is less than 12 days and your temps don't stay up.
That might not be what's wrong, and maybe you'll go on to have a healthy 3rd pregnancy with no meds, but it's better to check now than be afraid of going through that again. At least you'll have peace of mind knowing that you're taking some steps to prevent another m/c.
Don't waste your time with an ob/gyn, go to an RE, their job is to get you pg and help you stay that way. I wish you the best going forward
