Screaming--hungry and burping

My baby will be 11 weeks tomorrow and he is overall a very good/calm/happy baby but when hes hungry he screams bloody murder..especially at night.  He cant wait the 4 minutes for a bottle to warm up..he sometimes works himself up soo much that I think it causes him to spit up more.

During the day I try and predict when he will want to eat so I have the bottle ready to avoid this but in the middle of the night this is not possible.  He also will scream when you stop feeding him to burp him alot of the time. Any tips or suggestions?!?!

Side Note--I was breastfeeding the first couple of months but the past couple of weeks I have been pumping and doing bottles. He seems happier and fuller for longer. Nursing he was wanting to eat every hour and I just could not do it any more. Ive changed the nipple size up to size 2 and have increased the amount he is eating. (According to doc giving him too much at times haha) He has no prob gaining weight..he has already doubled his birth weight almost.

  • No recommendations but my LO tends to do the same thing. I think its probably too early to teach patience ...mobile wink

I just try to keep myself calm, and talk to LO calmly as if he would understand... telling him it's coming, he won't starve... helps me not feel so bad

  • I asked, my ped and said its perfectly ok to give them a cold bottle. It doesnt upset their stomach and there is no change in nutrician. I've had to do this a few times to keep mine calm. It's also good so that they don't get used to just warm bottles because there may come a time where you can't warm it and they won't take it.
As for burping, my LO is able to drink most of her bottle without stopping to burp her. I take that cue from her so that she doesn't start freaking out. That's been working for us.

  • Maybe get the nighttime bottles ready before bed and let them sit at room temp. Breastmilk can sit out for a bit and still be fine. You'd have to gooole how long but i thought it was 8 hours. That way you can pop a room temp bottle into his mouth either to feed him or at least tide him over until his bottle is ready.

This. My LO doesn't scream, but he will make enough fuss to wake DH if he doesn't get his bottle ASAP. I usually pump late [10:30 or 11:00] and leave that bottle sit out for the first overnight feeding. I also feed formula, so I measure out water into bottles and keep them and the formula container right next to the crib.

Now, especially since it's been hot, I won't hesitate to feed a cold bottle right out of the fridge. LO will get a little surprised look on his face at the first gulp, but beyond that, it doesn't faze him.

  • Thanks for the tips. I have never tried a cold bottle but maybe I will. Good point on leaving a freshly pumped bottle out for night too. I do that when we are away from home and traveling...I try to use my older frozen milk first(and have it all ready to go in bottles for during the day and nighttime) but maybe at night I should not do this to save some hassel!

Yeah I typically only burp him half through his bottles to save some commotion..its just soo embarrassing when were out in public with people or last week on the 4th at a party and hes just screaming his head off as we burp him. I guess a funny story to embarrass him with when hes older:)
