Fewer kicks today

I'm on bed rest so I'm probably hyper aware but less kick today then the past few days. Trying not to over think it. I just always wonder what the doctor means when they say to call them when you feel less kicking and movement. When does that come into play? Also, my mom mentioned I'll feel less as the baby gets bigger; when does that start?

Re: Fewer kicks today

  • you dont start doing kick counts until the third tri, so you have a couple of weeks. i have felt my baby MUCH less the past few days, but today at the u/s everything was fine. in fact for the first half of it he was just snoozing haha. i thnk they have growth spurts and sleep a lot.  the kicks get less much later in third tri from lack of room, but the rolling increases and makes you feel weird haah

I don't think you feel less movement, you just feel different movement the more pregnant you become. The super strong kicks become fewer and farther between, but there will still be plenty of rolling and stretching. I had tons of strong kicks with DD1, and this one is more into the rolling and stretching, but I still feel her. Did your OB give you an info book or packet? With both pregnancies, I was given something that indicated how many movements I should be feeling an hour. Until 28 weeks, it isn't really that many (like 13 or something random). I did end up going to get monitored with my first pregnancy because I felt decreased movement--I called the on-call nurse, she asked a bunch of questions, I cried hysterically, and they had me come in. I would definitely call your on-call nurse or doctor and go from there.

I was told I only need to feel SIX movements in a two hour period (after 28 weeks). Once you feel six you stop counting or you'll go insane. I actually threw out the tracking chart because ain't nobody got time for that.

  • I just had my last appointment at 26 weeks and was given the sheet explaining kick counts. It said 10 in 2 hoiurs. I've been able to feel ten everytevby the first fifteen mins of activiy. If anyone is worried drinking something sweet should help get the LO moving then you can do your count. I do agree it does add stress! I think these concerns are normal and it's signs we are good mommys because we care so much! :
  • I was also just told the 10 kicks every two hours thing, I was 25 weeks. I told my midwife I do not notice that many during the day because I'm so active, she basically told me I need to start paying better attention. I check in with LO when I think of it and I usually know how to get her to respond. I'm not stressing about it at this point, I feel like this could seriously stress me out if I focused on it all the time!

  • I had a 2 days last week where I felt very little movement and I had to really concentrate on things and rest to feel anything.  Made me super paranoid.  To make up for it, baby has been super active since.  Maybe it was a growth period or something.  I didn't think kick counts started till 28 weeks or so.
