My son is 5 months old and has always been a great sleeper. He slept through the night starting at 8 weeks in a swaddle. Lately during nap time he has slept in his rock 'n play without a swaddle but he pushes himself up on his side. If he is having trouble napping we just push him on his side and he goes right to sleep. Tonight we tried to put him in his crib (we have been on vacation this last week and therefore was in the rock 'n play the whole week sleeping on his side) in a swaddle and he hated being on his back. We took him out of his swaddle and he couldn't push himself onto his side since the crib is flat. So currently he is in the bouncing chair sleeping on his side. My question: Is having him sleep for now in his chair/rock 'n play while he is working on rolling over going to ruin him from being able to go back to his crib or should I make him sleep at night in his crib?
Re: Side sleeper
my little one slept in his rock and play until he could roll himself over, and was rolling himself over in his rock and play.
then he went to his crib, we put the boppy in the first three days so he was still at an incline (removing it once he was asleep) and he has had no problems at all, i put him down "back to sleep" every night but when i get up in the morning he is always either on his side or on his belly.
i was neurotic about SIDS risk with him rolling onto his side/stomach to sleep, but after a week of trying to reposition him each time he rolled i gave in and let him sleep however he was comfortable.
Put him in his crib and roll him onto his side. That is what we did until DS learned to roll over by himself. Now that DS is a roller, he starts on his side and then rolls to his tummy to sleep.
I found that, when I put DS on his side, if I put his top leg in front of his body a bit, he would stay put on his side. Again, that was prior to his ability to roll everywhere.
