3rd Trimester

Too Big?

I am getting so frustrated at random people or even family saying how big I am! Already today I have had two people say how big I am...one saying "oh wow, you are ready to pop!" I had to let him know I'm seven months pregnant and still have over two months to go. The other person  asked how far along I am then proceeding to say "wow too big!" Really? How do people think these could be acceptable things to say. After that second comment, I went in the bathroom at work and cried.  I'm petite so yes I have a stomach, I am pregnant.  My family before has made so many comments before saying how big I am at that stage. I had to tell them do not make comments on my size! I'm all belly and people just feel the need to comment, it is so frustrating! Does anyone else have this problem?

Re: Too Big?

  • Yes.  It's annoying, but part of the territory I guess.   Try not to let it get to you and focus on the healthy baby you are growing.

  • Welcome to The Bump! And welcome to third tri!

Two or three posts down from yours is one that is almost the same. If you scroll back through the pages, you will see tons of posts that are the same.

In general, people don't know what to say to pregnant women.  You are either too big, or too small. It comes with the territory. Don't let people get to you.

  • thank you! it sucks so much, hope you are doing well!
  • You know it honestly doesn't bother me when people comment on the size of my bump. I just always figured it was kind of a given with pregnancy. My in-laws are the worst about it, but the only one that actually gets me is my uncle in law "That's some beer belly!". I swear, he thinks he's being funny but it's just obnoxious. If I hear him make the comment "Now you know what causes that, right?" "It's not eating fish on Fridays" I'm going to say something not nice.

  • People are such assholes. and I'm sorry that they're being major assholes to you. It's so rude and so inconsiderate! I wish people would just quit with their comments. :( And don't cry over stupid people. As long as your doctor isn't concerned, you shouldn't be either. And that's all that matters.

  • I have people who tell me I'm too small. It drives me nuts and had me worried. My OB said I was right on track and said not to listen to people. One day, within minutes of each other, one person told me I was small and another said I was huge.

As long as your doctor is fine with your weight gain and measurements, you're fine. Try not to listen to any uneducated medical advice or comments from people.
  • I don't hide my reactions to stuff. Not that I really have the option... If something makes me want to cry, I'm already tearing up within a few seconds. (and its not really hormones... I've always been that way)

  • I wouldn't let it bother you. People say obnoxious things to pregnant women. Embrace your bump and be thankful that you will probably end up with a decent sized baby!
  • Yeah I am getting it too.  I am bigger than i was last time too so even people who knew me before are commenting.

But, that's how it goes. People's filters vanish when it involves pregnancy. ;)
