3rd Trimester

Milk tea

Would you start it in your last week?

Had the worst milk supply last baby and had to feed him hourly and pump in between just to produce some. He dropped 2 lbs the first 2 days before I found out my supply was horrid. This was also while taking domperidone.

Anyways, a friend's midwife suggested to her to start the milk tea just before birth. Would you do it? I'm hoping not to be cursed this time so I'm reluctant to do it. So damn scared of going through that again.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Milk tea

  • I plan on starting while I am in the hospital and not before. I have had great luck in the past with mothers milk tea (went from pumping 2oz every 3 hours to 10oz every 3 hours). I will start pumping in the hospital as well. After baby has been on the breast I was told/suggested to pump for another 10-15 min.

  • Do you mean Mother's Milk Tea?
    https://www.traditionalmedicinals.com/product/mothersmilkreg ?

On the box it says specifically NOT to start while still pregnant. It has licorice root in it. My midwife has given me specific, detailed instructions to wait on any lactation boosting tea until baby is out and nursing.

I'd talk to your OB and midwife before you do this.

  • Ahh I didn't even notice it said not during pregnancy.

That advice came from a midwife ha!

I'm hoping I don't even need it, but yes I will just bring it to the hospital.

    Thanks.
